Silk Flowers for Centerpiece?? or is it a big NO-NO??

Hi all,

This is my second post... :) I'll be getting married in 2006, nothing has been decided yet (not even date and hall... )..

But i'm already trying to come up with some money-saving ideas...

So here's one:
Do you think it is OK for me to use silk flowers for my centerpieces? Again, I have absolutely no clue how I want my centerpiece yet, but will most likely be something simple.

I will be travelling to Asia next year, where I know I will be able to get some nice quality silk flowers that look very much like real.

Do u think I should go for this idea??

Or is it simply a big no-no and I should forget about it?

Also, I will be using real flowers for bo-k's, corsages. It will just be the centerpieces (or whatever other big pieces that will cost a lot of money) using silk flowers.

Advice please!!

Thank you!

Re: Silk Flowers for Centerpiece?? or is it a big NO-NO??

I personally would not use them-- but before you go and buy a bunch of flowers- you may want to investigate how much the flowers you want may cost. Even if you buy all these flowers, you still need to get a vase, someone to arrange them, etc.

Also- there are a lot of CP's you can do that do not involve flowers-- you may want to investigate alternative ideas-- you can tie it into your theme and have a lot of fun with a winter or fall wedding- there are so many ideas out there.

I thought of using candles and thought I would go out and get candles at like dollar stores or something- stock pile them for a year-- I did not know what I was thinking.. After I did my wedding budget-- and met with florists, I was surprised at how reasonable they were for everything I wanted. I thought wedding flowers would cost me like $20K!! Yes-- I was very happily surprised! I just didn't know.

It is really a matter of personal preference...whatever makes you happy and whatever you think looks good, it doesn 't matter whate anyone else thinks......

I say go for the silk if that's what you want. One of my BM's used all silk flowers at her wedding because she has really bad allergies and couldn't use real flowers. They looked beautiful, especially in the pictures.

I think silk flowers are fine. If you decided to give away the centerpieces...your guests will have them forever!!

If you are doing this for financial reasons, price out the type of CP's you would like to have with florists before you go to Asia. This way you could comparison shop.

Re: Silk Flowers for Centerpiece?? or is it a big NO-NO??

I know someone who used silk for her BoKs and Centerpeices. I think it's a good idea. Especially since people usually take home the centerpieces and if you put it in a nice vase, they will have a lasting momento of your wedding.
