I was at a christening for my niece yesterday & my bro/SIL tipped the priest a significant amount of $ for performing the service.

Yes, a tip goes anywhere from 50-100. Afterall, it is a business for them too!

Re: Silly Q, do you have to
i thought you dont have to tip the priest? there is already a large 'donation' for them, and i dont think a priest performing a wedding is a business for them.

Re: Silly Q, do you have to
I'm Jewish - I wasn't planning to tip my Rabbi - weddings are the only thing he does and he's his own business....

Yeah I did not think that you had to tip the priest either. I thought it was the donation. Actually I thought that they were not even aloud to take a tip.

I don't think you should tip the priest, but if there are alter servers you tip them

Re: Silly Q, do you have to
i am tipping my priest - it's not in my church so he is traveling to our reception site and charges nothing...not like the RABBI!!! - it's a crime what they charge....so I am tipping my priest!

Re: Silly Q, do you have to
Etiquette says that you do not tip the priest because he is am member of the church, if you want to give a donation to the church you can.

This is what we plan on doing (although since the priest is my FH's uncle, we're paying for his accomodations).

Re: Silly Q, do you have to
See that is what I thought to & my brother got an envelope from the church that says:
Priest Donation/Tip on it (for a christening), I never heard of that before.

Re: Silly Q, do you have to
I think AI would probably tip the priest..the donation is going to the church, a tip would go to him for whatever he wanted to spend it on personally.
A rabbi, probably not, since we're personally paying money to the rabbi himself.
