As I recall, at every Jewish wedding I have been to, they provided a small container of bobby pins so that the men could take one if they wanted it to hold the yarmulke (kippot) on. My mom says that she has never, ever seen that! Of course, it wouldn't cost much to provide it, but my mom thinks it is weird. Can someone solve the Bobby Pin Debate??

Re: silly question for Jewish brides
When I went to a Jewish funeral, they provided everything (I'm gonna butcher the name) yamaka and the lace for the women and bobby pins and everyone used it. I would assume they would do the same for a wedding.
My FH is Jewish and I am Catholic, but we are having a non-denomination service as neither of us are practicing either religion. We'll just continue to celebrate both holidays as they come

Without the bobby pins how would the women get the lace thing (osrry NO clue what it's called) to stay on?

Re: silly question for Jewish brides
I remember the bobby pins being available in temple- but I think that was mostly available for women- to put the little lace thing on to cover their heads. I have never seen bobby pins at a wedding- and I think most yarmulkes stay put. I mean, can you really see a man putting a bobby pin in his hair? If they even have enough hair to get one in!

Re: silly question for Jewish brides
I remember seeing bobby pins already slid onto the yammuka (sp?) That way, they just take it and go and dont forget to take the bobby pin!

I don't think there's anything weird about it, although we didn't think to do it for our wedding.

Re: silly question for Jewish brides
After all of this commotion about the bobby pins, I will have to just laugh if I forget to provide them at my wedding!!! I was shocked that my mom had never seen this--she's Jewish and is from a Jewish comminuty----is it something that people only started doing recently? (mom hasn't had a chance to go to a Jewish wedding for a few years).
Question #2--do you all think that a yarmulke upgrade (like suede) is worth whatever the extra cost is?

Re: silly question for Jewish brides
I think it depends on exactly what the extra cost is, and how many of your guests are jewish, because your jewish guests will save them and probably use them again for saders (sp?) and stuff, meanwhile all of your non jews will probably not know what to do with them after the wedding and wont notice if they were upgraded or not
