since when do guests get to dictate who should get invitations?

since when do guests get to dictate who should get invitations?

I am so beyond pissed. My grandma and uncle are harassing my father that my uncle's gay friend (that used to be his boyfriend for many, many years) should get an invitation to my wedding. My uncle is invited with a guest, if he wants to take him then that's fine but why does his ex boyfriend need to get his own invitation? I don't understand! Please if this makes sense to someone help me understand, I'm losing my mind. This is the 930958308 time they've asked me to send him an invitation!

He isn't by any chance related to the 3 gay men I am supposed to invite, that we met once, at dinner 3 years ago is he?

I said the same thing, if you want them to come bring them as your dates. Only I think I was kinda bitc*y when I said it, so it was only asked 30 times before being dropped.

Good luck!

you're not wrong at all.....if your uncle wants to invite him as his guest--thats fine. but if you don't feel he should get his own invite--then he doesn't get one.

cause with any bet---you'll invite him and he'll want to bring his own guest!!!

EXACTLY! I told my dad I'll end up paying for 2 extra people b/c they'll each bring their own guest! I think they're using me as the middle (wo)man to rekindle their relationship. If my uncle is too embarassed to invite him as his guest then he shouldn't be coming at all! The balls on some people, I swear

Yeah, this caused several fights with me and FH. FBIL is his best man and we invited him and his roomie (they are no longer a couple but share a one bedroom apt ) each with dates, as well as one of their friends who we see often. They want me to invite 3 others, because they want to save their +1's in case they 'get lucky' right before the wedding, you know it being summer and all.

1/2 of FIL's aren't speaking to me about it, oh well. But it's causing MAJOR stress because FH is in the middle even though he agrees with me.

If your uncle takes him as his date he is invited and this is what you should tell them!

well he's not even asking me, him and his mother are harassing my father, who is not even paying for the wedding! He already told him there are no more invitations, which is true and he told him to buy one and mail it to him

to get yourself out of looking like the bad one, tell your dad that if they REALLY want to rekindle the relationship then the best thing to do is for your uncle to invite him as his guest. If you invite him then its not like this man will know its your uncle who really wants him there, it will show that your uncle is trying by asking him to be his date. By sending this other man an invite of his own that can make the situation worse, point out to them how the plan can backfire. Obviously this other man is not going to want to come alone, he would probably feel awkward so he most likely will bring a date and this wont help with them rekindling their relationship and might cause an awkward situation. So the best for the two of them is for your uncle to bring him as his guest

Well my dad did tell him that he was invited with a guest and he should bring his ex. He said to take away his guest and send his ex an invite, it'd be too weird to send him his own invitation b/c they haven't been together in 15 years, but then why does he need to come to my wedding? You see where this all doesn't make sense? What you said makes sense denise but there's no talking sense into my family. My father would rather make me look like the bad one then stand up to his brother/mother. It's a really tough situation.

wow 15 years, i thought it was a few short years if anything. That is weird and even more reason why his ex would bring another date to your wedding, its been so long since he has probably been around your family and would feel comfortable coming with somebody.

It doesn't make sense lol, but yeah i know what you mean...even when something makes more sense others dont seem to realize it

Re: since when do guests get to dictate who should get invitations?

I soooooooo relate. Get this:

My Grandma's sister is invited to the wedding with her husband. Her daughters are not invited - I barely know them, have met them once and our guest list is already at 261 b/c my parents are each one of six children and I have FIFTY FIRST COUSINS. Nevertheless, one of her daughters CALLS MY MOM and says 'Diane, I didn't get my invitation, where is it? My Mom can't come if I don't drive her.' Hmmmm, ok wasn't aware she couldn't drive, but fine. THEN, my grandma's sister RSVPs and on the card writes her and her husband's name AND HER OTHER DAUGHTER'S NAME - not the same daughter who called about needing to drive her. Both daughters are grown women. W T F!!!!
