Single guests: with or without a date?

Re: Single guests: with or without a date?

we invited everyone over the age of 18 with a guest. Everyone under 18 was addressed as a single.
I have however been to weddings where people have only included guests if they are engaged/married or in the BP.

It's your wedding and if you want to shorten the guest list and invite some friends as singles because they do not have boyfriends, then you should!

I like what ericab wrote, lol!!

Originally we were inviting every single with a date, but FH's list from work was growing and growing. There are a slew of people from his work who are single and not dating anyone. We invited those people without dates bc they all know each other. It saved a number of spots. However, our closer friends who are single were all invited with a date.

All of my single friends know each other so we are only inviting people in a relationship with a date.

Same here. All of the singles at our wedding are friends with each other so they'll be just fine. They know they aren't invited with dates & they're fine with it.

i invited everyone with a guest - i had a personal experience which someone was very hurt and insulted because they were invited solo to someone elses wedding. i didnt ever want to make anyone feel that way - so everyone was invited with guest.

We only invited our friends with a date if they were in a serious relationship. All of our single friends know each other and we had two singles tables with equal numbers of girls and guys, so they paired up for the slow dances, etc. No one seemed to mind... everyone understands that weddings are expensive!

We are inviting everyone over 18 w/ guest. I would be offended if I were invited without a guest, and I most likely wouldn't go to the wedding if that were the case. I feel it's the right thing to do (JMHO)

DH and I made it our business to check and which of our single friends were involved with people in serious relationships. Those people were invited with guests.

There was only one person at our wedding who did not know a single person. He was the only guest invited with a date who was not in a serious relationship.

If a person doesn't know a soul, I can see it. But frankly, finances do not always permit people to afford an 18 year old to bring the 'flavor of the week' so they can have a good time. If people don't like it, don't come. There were no 'protests of absence' at our function. In fact, most of our single guests DID come. People who wanted to be there were there - for us.

There were plenty of single people invited without dates. They all danced. I actually viewed my wedding video last night and there were many instances of single guests dancing with guests originally coupled with someone else.

I was one of the last of my friends and family members to get married (at 35 years old) when the weddings were starting as I turned 22. 95% of the time, I was invited to all of those weddings WITHOUT a date. I was never insulted. The day was about sharing someone's joy. If I felt I wanted to be sad about being alone, I wouldn't have gone at all. It was enough to be thought of as a guest in the first place.

JMHO

I am of the opinion that all adults should be invited with a date. There are, however, plenty of people who disagree with me.

I'd personally find it rude to be invited without a date. I haven't been invited without one since I was 17... and it bugged me then b/c I had a serious boyfriend. (I took HS romance way too seriously! LOL)

ETA - Att he same time, I find it rude when very single people bring random dates to weddings even though they know people there.

You know what you can / can't afford and know your guests best, so the decision is up to you... but I would try to invite people with guests if you can. JMHO.

She said it all.

I'm inviting everyone with a guest, but keeping my fingers crossed that there won't be many random people at my wedding.

if you were single, would you want to be there alone? Even if it's a random, it's company, especially for those who don't know that many people..many of my singles still came alone

I dont think it is actually fair to consider it 'rude' if a couple or a family is of limited means and can only afford to make a wedding with a guest list of a certain amount of people. If that means inviting people without guests, who is anyone to impose personal opinions on their situation?

We are inviting all of our friends with a date. One thing we realized was we had about 15 single male friends being invited and only about 4 single girls. So even if they wanted to pair up, it would be really awkward.

Just something to think about since the night is about balance, and you want people to be able to have fun.

If someone chooses not to bring a date, then maybe that balance will be off, but at least that was thier choice. I just felt bad for the group of guys I grew up with that they would be at a table of all guys with no all girls table!

I'm inviting pretty much everybody with a guest.

ETA: If I were trying to keep my numbers down, I wouldn't have (only people in relationships)... however, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make my minimum, so in that case I hope people will bring dates!

We're inviting everyone in the bridal party with a date (6 of them are married, 4 are single). As for the regular guests, everyone in a serious relationship is being invited with their SO, if they're single and not in a relationship, we're inviting them alone.

We really just want a small, intimate weddign with our closest friends and family, and we have a small budget. So the only people who get to bring a date are those whoa re atleast dating someone. I seriously don't want to have to pay for random people at my wedding, especially since EVERYONE who is coming knows other people.

I just got into this with my FMIL this weekend because the daughter of a friend of hers who was invited to the wedding, just offered up that she is planning to bring some totally random guy friend and I was like um 'NO!.' We want a small wedding-I didnt invite even our single older relatives with a date unless they are in a serious relationship or living together because just like the above poster, at out wedding, EVERYONE will know someone. This girl who wanted to bring the random guy, will know her mother, her grandmother, her uncle and her sister. HELLLOOOOO WHY do you need a date? In my experience, few people ever dabce with their dates anyway at weddings when you know people. I usually dance with my FSIL because FH doesn't like to dance. They can deal. No matter what you do, someone will find something to criticize so I am done with wodnering who I am offending. if they don't want to come, they don't have to.
