single people who were invited alone, rsvp 2?

Original post by dewdrop

what the heck?

and when we asked who one of them were bringing, he was like, ummm, maybe this girl from work.

he is going to know a few people at the wedding besides us - i would HATE for him to show up alone at the last minute.

and then another dud who was invited alone puts 2 on his reply card. he only knows one other person besides FH, but has flaked out last minute and didnt show up to a wedding last summer at the last minute.

question is, how do you tell these friends to make sure they are brining someone if they want, but to please don't just bring anyone just to bring someone- in a nice way....and not in so many words...?

Bottom line is this is your wedding make a plan , and stick to the 'rules'.
If it is the money factor or whatever the reason (although it is none of anyones's buz) than say 'at this time' it is simply not in our *budget* or we are not taking requests to have significant others unless they are married or seriously dating.
(another wards no random's)
Have yourself or your FH address the individual politely about it.
By using the term 'at this time' it will allow for to have room later on when your wedding gets closer to make an assessment if this truly is no big deal to let them attend with a guest they are not serious with. Guest will reply no or not show. You will have a better idea I'd say anywhere from 3 to 1 wk bfr hand.

i agree with this! this is what we dd for our wedding. we had a few single friends that we were really close to, and who knew each other. before we sent out invites, we talked to them and said ' look, for right now, we don't have room for you to bring a guest, but once we get some 'no' responses, we'll let you know'. they were all completely fine with it. a few weeks before the wedding, once we got some no responses, we let them all know that they could bring somebody if they wanted to. and guess what?? none of them ended up bringing a guest- they all just had a great time hanging out with each other.
so i agree with maybe putting it as ' at this time' kind of thing. good luck!!

Be careful. We had alot of the same issues. We invited this guy who was just dating a girl. He invited her and none of them showed. We had 16 people who said yes and then never showed. real Nice

we could have used that $$ someone.

And then what gets me, none of them ever called...You know what i have to say to that

I really wish my FH could read these pages. LOL. I really believe he thinks that this issue is just specific to us. So glad to see you girls have the same going on. I have this conversation on a daily basis.

I'm with gemmifer... it's your day, you no what you envision and let's face it, you pictured this guy without a date! He shouuld have NEVER added one to his RSVP, especially without permission from you and your FH.
