Anyway the HR girl told me ( I am going back for a second) and she said ..
Theresa.. Maybe you should put a rinse in your hair bc in the corpoate world blonde haired girls aren't taken with alot of respect..Just get the job and then take the rinse out!
I said YOU HAVE TO be kidding me.......
I am going to GET This JOB if it kills me now JUST FOR That!

Yes..
BC I met with headhunter on Monday I think and she said Theresa.. You should darken your hair.
I said FOR WHAT..
What does my hair color have to do with what I am able to do at work.. I said PLease get over it..
and she said DON'T wear the E ring on the interview..
I wonder where they get their guidelines!

Re: Sit down for this one!
That's ridiculous.
I have to say what she said about the E Ring makes me paranoid, I worry about my rings now with interviews. I wonder if they think I'll be less dedicated because I'm married, may want to have a family etc. It ****s we have to think about these things but I admit it crosses my mind for interviews. Anyone else feel this way?

Re: Sit down for this one!
Don't wear your ring???????? This agency is out of their minds!!! What does you getting married in the future have to do w/ your work? If you're getting married this year you would have to tell them so that they are aware in advanced that you want a few weeks off for your honeymoon. Believe me the new company would apprecitate the honesty. It amazes me what some of these people say. I went on an interview & they gave me the whole wear your hair up, suit ect.... The place was DISGUSTING!!! And everyone was in jeans!!! WTF?? Have you ever noticed that the people that work at the agencies don't dress the way they want you to??!!

I don't get it - at this stage in time, someone would make those king of remarks? I'm not buying something here. Maybe because I'm not in the financial sector, but I don't get it

Re: Sit down for this one!
THe hair comment is totally out of line, but I know a lot of women who don't wear their e-rings or wedding bands on interviews. I had a boss who passed on women who were engaged or married b/c their assumption was that you are family oriented and will leave soon to have kids. I didn't wear my e-ring when I was interviewing last year, just in case.
Meanwhile, it's always a positive for guys to be married, b/c it shows that they have stability in their lives. I really hate double standards.

T- unfortunately this woman is right. I was told the same thing when I was looking for a job. The whole e-ring thing. The co. will look down upon because they think that as soon as women get married, the next thing is them having kids, etc. which leads too all sorts of leaves of absences. It is a stereotype, but unfortunately a lot of big co. feel that way. The whole hair color thing tho - I never heard - but then again I'm in the communications field - not business. I have heard that comment from a business teacher I had a while ago. I think if you want the job that bad - then do what the headhunter says - she's not going to steer you in the wrong direction - because she wants the $.

Re: Sit down for this one!
I did some temp work for the UN, woking with there HR department and assisting with redifining there HR policies and what this HR person said is wrong.
You need to get a copy of there policies and procedures and look into talking to the head of HR.
Also, on a job interview if you get asked a question regarding marriage or your ring, you can simply say 'what does this have to do with my job performance'
something to that nature. I read it somewhere on Monster.com that they can not judge you upon wearing a ring.
Also if they hired you lets say with 10 piercings in your face, blue hair then 2 months later say oh no you cant do that, you can bring up the point of well you hired me upon looking like this.
HR is a tricky deal. You have to read between all the lines.
Definatly get a copy of the policies and procedures.

Re: Sit down for this one!
Sad but it happens. My first job was at JP Morgan and my headhunter dictated what I should wear on the interview down the pearls and stocking color. The hair color thing I haven't heard. I guess some people go with the stereo type. I am a brunette so can't relate on that one. I now work for a big financial company and was interviewing while I was engaged and needed to be upfront about the time I was going to need off for the wedding. It didn't seem to be a problem. And I interviewed with both a man and women.
T- If you want this job bad enough I wouldn't make waves as far as speaking to the head of HR. But I wouldn't alter anything about yourself. Your resume should tell them all they need to know. Good Luck. I hope you get it!!!

I wonder if these employers have a clue. You could get pregnant without being married.
