Sizing in BM Dresses Vs. Bridal Gowns

Sizing in BM Dresses Vs. Bridal Gowns

So I have been a BM many times and a MOH... and I've ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS had problems with BM dresses.. no matter what the material, designer, etc. I always have to order soooo many MORE SIZES UP (i think it's because im 'top heavier' than I am 'bottom heavy' ---not top as in big boobs... but as in broad ) and everyone says that Bridesmaid dresses usually run smaller (and I always order the big size and a lot of work is STILL REQUIRED because I am much smaller on the bottom.. waist, hip area.... )
For those of you who bought your bridal gowns... is it the same as bridesmaid dresses...??????

bridal gown sizes are very similar. what happens with bridal gowns is that they take your measurements....and then they take those measurements and they look at a chart that the designer of your gown lists for their sizes. whatever you LARGEST measurment is in--that is the size they will order your gown in.

so lets say your hips and wait only fall into the measurement maximum of a size 10 -- BUT your bust falls into the measurement category of a size 14 -- then they will order a size 14---and then just alter the rest.

the same thing pretty much goes for bridesmaid dresses usually.

I wasn't upset....thing is my hips and waist fit into a much smaller size then my boobs but we had to go with the boob size so theyre not popping out. All that matters is that the dress fits you like a glove. And it will! They will be sure of it! I do think they run a bit better than BM gowns though.

I think the sizing for both BM and Bridal Gowns would be similar. A person's body shape and the cut of the gown is also going to play a major role in the size ordered. Size is only a number I'm sure the gown will be fabulous!

I personally am a little curvy and chose a strapless gown with a dropped waist.

I think the sizing is pretty similar....my wedding gown is a 10, and I tried on the BM dresses the girls have and the 10s fit me (a little big, 8s a little small) and I wear a street size 6 (sometimes 8)....

I'm bottom heavy and my hips were my largest measurement, they would have been a 10 according to the chart, but my waist was an 8 and my boobs were a 6. Since it is A-line, and wouldn't be touching my hips or butt, they suggested ordering me an 8.
The last bridesmaid dress I wore was cut very straight (horrible for me, I still resent having to wear that!) and my hips measured a 14, waist 8, bust 6. I ordered a 14 and it just fit my hips and was huge on top and needed tons of alterations.
Wow, didn't mean to write that much, but I guess, just go with whatever size they suggest, and don't worry about the number -- they know what they are doing.
