Ski Resorts

Ski Resorts

I'm looking for a recommendations on a place either in NY or NJ to go skiing this winter. We're a mix of beginners and experienced... We'd go for a friend's b-day so if there is some type of a nightlife.

Thanks!

Whiteface Mountain up in Lake Placid, NY

It's far (about 4-5 hours drive) but the mountain is much less crowded, the prices are a bit more reasonable and Lake Placid has plenty to do.

Hunter - its close all new yorkers - so there is a night life

the skiing is ok - have beginner packages - i believe icluding rentals, lesson and ticket

It also has some arder stuff for experts

downfall - mountain can get really crowded -

I agree. You might want to go up on a Thursday so the mountain isn't too crowded and then party on a Friday night.

I have to agree with Hunter. The mountain is ok, but the town is a lot of fun. You can look on sites like cyberrental if you guys might want to rent a house instead of a hotel. Me and my friends find that it winds up being cheaper.

I figured Hunter might be the best but it definitely is really crowded. We're trying to do a 3 day weekend in January which is going to make it even more crowded!

ETA: Thanks for the cyberrental.com site!

I have to chime in and say I am not a fan of Hunter Mountain at all. Hunter gets way too crowded .. and in my opinion, I felt stuck .. as though there were slopes good mainly for the really experienced .. and just a few for those trying to learn or practice fine-tuning.

I've remember Windham as being a better place than Hunter for the in-between types .. though this place can also get pretty crowded.

There's also the old Vernon Valley .. now called Mountain Creek .. no idea how this place is now .. but I used to find it great for a day trip.

My favorite place to go .. Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, CT .. though that's probably farther than you want to go .. but it was a perfect blend of trails for beginner and advanced .. and it certainly would never get beyond packed like other places.

How's the nightlife at Mohawk Mt?

Try Jack Frost or Camelback in the Poconos. My friends and I go every year for the January 3-day weekend. We rent a house at Big Bass Lake, which is about 20 minutes west of the mountains.
The Tannsersville outlets are out there too.

Not sure of the nightlife though - we always make our own 3-day parties!

Just some info. ..

We have a house in VT by Mt.Snow and it takes us exactly 4 hours to get there.
It has awesome night life but is packed on weekends.

If that's no good my favorite mountain in NY is
Belleayre

Great for beginners, not packed with people. But night life also not that good.

I've also been to Gore but I'm not sure about any night life.

I'm sorry .. but I don't know .. we'd just go up for the day .. Vernon Valley would be if I was doing a solo trip when no one else was around to go.
