Sleeping on Tummy

Does anyone let their baby sleep on his/her tummy? I feel like that is the only position that Nicky is really comfortable in - he seems to only stay asleep for only 2 hours max when he is on his back. And when I put him on his side, he always rolls onto his back eventually (even when I prop him up on his side). I have not put him to sleep yet on his tummy, but it is so tempting. But I worry about SIDS, etc. too - is the rate really that much higher for babies who sleep on their tummy? I have read about that Angelcare monitor that lets you know if your baby stops breathing, and several people I know of use this with tummy-sleeping babies - they claim it works great and their babies sleep much longer and everyone is happier. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Re: Sleeping on Tummy

I never let Aidan sleep on his belly, I don't think he would even like it. But he did like side sleeping so the sleep positioner that I used to keep him in place on his back I used to keep him on his side, I just moved the side in closer.

It was just like this one only BRU brand I believe

Sleep Positioner

Re: Sleeping on Tummy

That sleep positioner is great. We had to get it for my nephew because he was having a problem with a dent in his skull, so we always had to position him on the other side... he didnt move all night!

Re: Sleeping on Tummy

I never let Amber sleep on her tummy unless it's on my lap. I'm so deathly afraid of SIDS. Even when I'm with her and she's playing, if I put her on her tummy she freaks out. That sleep positioner is awesome!!

Re: Sleeping on Tummy

Jack sleeps on his tummy all the time. It is the ONLY way he will sleep for long periods at a time. The only reaon I am very comfortable with this is that he has very good neck control since he was born and can easily lift his head and change sides as he sleeps. I check on him all the time, but don't have too many worries since he already lifts his head and controls his neck.

Re: Sleeping on Tummy

I NEVER let Alyssa sleep on her tummy. She's now 7 1/2 months old and even though I lay her on her back, she flips onto her belly.
At first I spent much of the night waking up and flipping but she continued to flip back onto her belly. I mentioned this to her dr and he said 'What can you do, you have to sleep too and you can't watch over her all night long?'
If you feel more comfortable, buy that thing that will let you know if they stop breathing.
It bothers me too. Up until recently, she was sleeping comfortably on her side or her back. Now she is stubborn and ONLY wants to sleep on her belly.

Re: Sleeping on Tummy

I let him sleep on his tummy last night - it was the best night of sleep that DH and I have gotten so far! He woke up once at 3am to eat and went right back down. I went to BRU to get that monitor, but they didn't have it....I will ask my dr. what he thinks I guess.

Re: Sleeping on Tummy

Why don't you get one of those sleep positioners? We used that when Alyssa was younger.
