What is the best way to scan photos for a slideshow?

We are making our own short slide show and playing clips of our engagement video as well. I have recent pictures on my computer, but obviously none of the baby ones are on here.

I have an all-in-one printer and used the scanner on that to put the pics on the pc. the utility program put them into a scanner folder and I just moved them into the folder with the other pics I already had for the slideshow.
