sliding glass doors

What type of covering does everyone have on their sliding glass doors? Currently we have the vertical blinds and we HATE them. I want to put something different up. What other options do I have? Please post pics if you have! THANKS

Re: sliding glass doors

I just have a couple of panels up on a decorative rod. I got the panels for $9.99 each from Linens N Things. Despite the cheap price .. they are very, very nice!

Here's a link and photo of the curtains we have:

Panels

It's hard to see from this photo .. but there is a pattern in the fabric .. you can see it on the link on the lighter color swatches.

Re: sliding glass doors

I am having the same problem! We took the verticals down when we were painting and I do not want to put them back up. I was looking the other day in BB&B, but I couldn't find anything I liked. I was thinking of getting a double rod and putting a sheer curtain in the back with a heavier drapery on top.

Kel-what kind of material are those panels? Are they sheer? Do you have the valance too?

Re: sliding glass doors

Direct from the link I posted:

A panel and ascot valance complete the look of this lovely window treatment. 60% polyester/40% cotton.

The material is not the heaviest around .. but it is definitely not sheer!

You can follow the link to see what they have available in the color of your choice. From what I can tell .. they do not have the valance available in the burgundy .. but they do have it in beige, sage, and gold .. for $9.99 each.

I did not do the valance .. I was trying to save some money .. but I actually like the way it looks, and am not disappointed I didn't splurge .. a couple of other reasons I didn't go for the valances .. I didn't know how many I was going to need and I would have also needed new hardware.

And for the record .. I bought the same panels in gold to use in our bay window in the living room (again, no valances) .. only I have not put them up yet .. and because the panels are so cheap .. I bought an extra one that will be used to make extra throw pillows.

Re: sliding glass doors

Thus why mine are still bare over a year later. Since mine are often used in the summer/spring/fall, I don't want to put something that will be in the way and I am also not a fan of verticals.

I am thinking of either panels with rings or tab tops that easily slide to the side and can be held back with a bracket or something when I need to use thenm and I can close to keep warmer in the winter months. I just haven't found anything I like in the right color. I may also consider doing two rods - one with sheer panels and the other with a colored drape.

Re: sliding glass doors

We have a curtain rod (solid wood large finials) and rings....the curtains are beautiful chenille type of fabric. I also bought large matching round tyebacks for them. I can't tell you how many compliments we get...

I wish I had a picture to show you..

Re: sliding glass doors

I've seen people use the honeycomb blinds with a valence on top which look really nice. The only thing is that with honeycombs they are either up or down.

Re: sliding glass doors

I bought the raw silk (dark green) curtains from pottery barn with a sheer curtain underneath. I have three panels. I also bought a matching tassel at pottery barn and I keep the middle panel tied with that for going in and out onto our balcony easily.

We have hunter douglas honeycombs on all the upstairs windows .. and I hate them for that very reason! But .. they are very nice .. and were new when we moved in a few years ago .. so I'm not willing to change them .. I just would not choose them.
