Small children at reception

Re: Small children at reception

This has been a discussion since I first got engaged. I really do not want children at my wedding, but FI and FMIL want them there. My family members that have children would totally understand if their kids are not invited, but FI's would not. I am thinking of having all the children at the ceremony and cocktail hour and then have a babysitter come to my hall and stay with them during the reception. I still have to decide. We are having 12 children ages 6-18. This is so hard especially when one of you want the kids and the other does not. Every vendor that I talked to about this said, 'NO KIDS', but you have to do what you want. I lost this battle!

For those of you that are having children at your wedding either by choice or not....

We had 5 children under 5 years old and 6 under 12 years old. Not a peep in the church during the ceremony, and they were nothing but adorable during the reception.

So, children don't automaticallly mean disaster. It wouldn't have been the same without them.

We are not having kids under age 16 at our wedding. We don't have a lot of small kids in the family, but the few in the family (my cousins) are spoiled brats and scream on the top of their lungs if things don't go their way! I can't tolerate this at family dinners, never mind a wedding. Our parents are supportive of this rule and we are casually mentioning this to people with kids. My friends are fine with this, maybe because they have months to think about babysitters for their children. My sister doesn't want her 22-month old daughter there because she feels that it won't be fair for her to have to sit still for hours and not run around. However, my niece will be at the rehearsal dinner and the after-wedding party!

The only kids that will be at our wedding will be out ringbearer (6) and flowergirl (3). I want the adults to enjoy themselves, not havr to worry about running after their kids and I know they would rather come alone for a night out anyway.

2 things. 1ST You all have solved my problem. 2ND. I went to a band showcase last night in Great Neck and the owner informed my at a wedding they did about a year ago a child knocked over the wedding cake and landed on the lead singer. (I hope they have that on video) It took them forever to clean it up. That's It NO KIDS. If anyone gets upset too bad. Thanks again girls.

My reception was an 'ADULT ONLY' reception and that's exactly what I put on the response card.

I also strongly believe that a 5 hour wedding reception is no place for children. Children will get bored, and bored children is a recipe for disaster. We are having just our one FG who will be 2. I'm hoping one 2 year old won't cause too much havoc!!!!
