Small Venue Needed, Out of the Box, for October 2015
Hi everyone, I'm new here. My fiance and I got engaged this past Christmas. We've looked at a few venues upstate (Lake Placid, Lake George) and while we loved them, they are too far for the families to travel. We also looked at Snug Harbor on Staten Island (where we live) but they are asking for a $5,000 deposit on a wedding that will have 75 people or less. We just can't do that. We are looking for a venue that is not the usual catering hall room, with an outdoor ceremony space on site(preferably on or overlooking water or surrounded by trees), that isn't ridiculously expensive, and where we are the only wedding for the day. We are looking for under $120pp if possible, while making sure that the food is incredible. Oh, and a seafood boat or shrimp cocktail and other seafood offerings are a must for the cocktail hour (even if its extra).
Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it's too Far East for you, but I'd suggest Irish coffee pub in east islip. I'm not sure about ceremony outdoors though.. Def check them out :)

I'm being biased but look at Coindre Hall in Huntington. Also Tarrytown Castle is gorgeous as well but not sure how much it is.

I'm willing to go as far out east as possible :) Montauk is closer than Lake George so please give me anything and everything that would fit the bill. Thanks.. :)

The Irish Coffee Pub reception room looks like a typical catering hall room :(

not sure if it would be too cold at this time, but my FH and I had our engagement party (a little over 100 ppl) on the Lauren Kristy. Its a two floor 65ft paddle boat that sails around the bay out of the Bay Shore marina. It was great, so much fun!

Although the Sand Castle is slightly typical, it's also slightly not and the food is AMAZING. I think the owners also own Floral terrace which was a runner up to our hall because I loved the feel of the hall. Also not 'typical' reception hall. Good luck

I recommended Captain Bills(they have a smaller room), or Miller Beach Surf Club. My FSIL did a 'do it yourself' wedding at the Bates House in Setauket.

I will say I agree with you, but the service you will get is great. They are VERY workable with you budget wise. Our minimum deposit to hold a date was $500. Their 2015 numbers will be $105pp (plus tax and fees, which makes it about $125pp). Ceremony would be indoors, but you can always do a ceremony elsewhere first :)
I went to a few places. The Snapper Inn (which is by the water in Oakdale), and they are more than Irish Coffee Pub per person (I believe $135pp). I don't remember what their deposit was, I believe it was 2,000 or 3,000?
I also went to Three Village Inn (which is also kind of on the water). I believe their price was actually cheaper than Irish Coffee Pub, BUT their add-ons really add up to being probably just as much as the other two. I was not in love with their ceremony space (it's basically in the middle of the parking lot).
I never went there but try Captain Bills or Miller Beach Surf Club. You might like those two.

Try Miller Beach surf Club or the view in Oakdale or snapper Inn also in Oakdale. I also recommend the Rivera in Massapequa If it's daytime Lands End in Sayville may work. For your day I would highly recommend the view! :)

Queens county farm! It's very beautiful, and I can only imagine how it would look in October! It's a do it yourself place, but the caterer is very reasonable!
