small wedding, mansion style...need help
Help!My sister is looking to have a small wedding
(60-70 people max) sometime this winter/spring
I've been doing past searches, and havent come across any that fit what she is looking for.
She's trying to find a place that has a mansion feel, that will accomidate a smaller # and not charge too much!
Has anyone here planned a small wedding mansion style?
Thanks in advance!

If she lives in the city there's the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture in Park Slope. It's a beautiful mansion with an upstairs library and it's perfect for weddings under 100 pp. I think the site fee is reasonable, by the hour. I might have my reception there. In Sayville is a restaurant/caterer called Michael's that is in a pretty house. It's on Main Street and looks nice from the outside, but I've never been inside and don't know anything about the food.
She could also try b and b's, it may be possible to rent one out for a wedding. Good luck!

Sans Souci is an old house. I think the price is reasonable. Here's a link to the website. Sans Souci of Sea Cliff

Anothere Brooklyn option is the Boathouse in Prospect Park. Its not a mansion per say but this beautiful old building by the water that is just amazing for a smaller party with great old architecture and gustavino ceilings. Would have had my wedding there in a heartbeat if I had fewer guets.

OMG I totally second the Boathouse in Prospect Park. If your sister lives in the city or will consider Brooklyn, ,she must look at it. It is stunning.

What about the Vanderbilt Mansion in Dowling College in Oakdale? I don't know a lot of specifics, but I believe they can accomodate a smaller wedding.Good Luck!!!!

Thats funny... I'm the 'sister' of CarrieAnn...CarrieAnn just had her wedding at Vanderbilt Mansion. It's a great place, I thought it was beautiful but I don't want to get married at the same place my sister did...If my sister would have waited a few more months to get married we could have had a double wedding

I remember a review a month or two back from a LI bride that rented an estate in the hamptons. It sounded beautiful, I don't remember anything more about it though. There is another Vanderbilt Mansion in Centerport that is much smaller, I've heard it's beautiful. The Country House in Stony Brook is another excellent choice. It's a Historical House used as a restaurant-they close the whole place for weddings. We looked at it, but it holds 100 max for parties.Good Luck.

Have you tried Coindre Hall in Huntington? It is an older mansion with spacious grounds and views of the Huntington Bay, and has a ballroom that accomodates smaller parties. I only went to a fair there, but I've heard the inside is very nice. It's now a Lessing property.http://www.lessing.com/cater_recep1.asp

We're having our (huge) rehersal dinner at the Neighborhood House in Setauket on Main Street. It was originally an inn (George Washington is rumored to have slept there), and now its a historical landmark. It has one big dining room (would definitely seat 80 or so people) & then several little rooms -- just like a house. Its right on a little pond & very quaint. Its slightly run-down...after all, it is over 200 years old! But I think with the right decorations it will look really beautiful. Plus, there is no in-house caterer, so you'd need to hire one separately. The site fee was $500 & you havethe house for the whole day. Here is a link: http://www.3villagecsd.k12.ny.us/minne/NeighborhoodHouse.htm

Re: small wedding, mansion style...need help
I think I'm the bride Richsbride was talking about! I rented a mansion in the hamptons in September and had my wedding there. It was great, beautiful and intimate. I had a little less than 100 people. It was more work than your traditional wedding though, since you have to get the caterer, rent the tables, linens, etc. If you're interested, let me know and I'll be happy to give you all my info. Here is a picture of us standing on the deck, we had the ceremony by the gazebo and the guests all had dinner around the pool. It was such a blast! Oh, we rented it for the whole week too, which was nice since my family and DH's family spent the week together (there are 9 bedrooms in the house).

DeSeversky doesn't have a site fee? And I thought they were well over $200 a plate?
