OK, so after looking at a few RH's last weekend, and calling some more this week, I really feel like small weddings don't get the time of day or attention they deserve! FH and I are having around 120 people tops and I find that weddings with smaller guest lists are left with less options.
For example: in a lot of places you're really restricted to the time of day you can get married, or even day of the week. The guarantees go so high in certain RH's that even if it were your dream to get married there, you couldn't if you planned on having a smaller guest list! Fh and I don't want to start inviting people just for the sake of meeting minimums!
I also notice that the rooms that host smaller weddings in some RH's just aren't as nice as the spaces for bigger weddings!
Does anyone else having a smaller guest list feel like there were a lot of factors that really restricted what they could do w/ their wedding?!?

Re: 'small wedding' vent
I have to tell you I went to look at a reception hall that most of us have been too...hint hint...and they were so rude to me because I was only having 150 guests. I couldnt even look at the bigger room and I was told that because of my 'size' wedding I couldnt have a ceremony there because they would need to block off the big cocktail hour room and that would prevent them from having a 'big' wedding...i was so annoyed...i left and didnt even look back...thank goodness i didnt!

Hmmm... I'm expecting 125-150 and I've told every RH i've been to and they haven't said anything negative like that. Try Smithtown Landing. I went there on Sunday and really liked the biggest room which has a 120 minimum. To me it looked a little small for 150 ppl but they say it maxes at 225. But, it was very very pretty and a lot cheaper than a lot of places I've seen.

I haven't experienced that....although we went right to our RH and booked immediately with them....they treated us so great and we had NO restrictions. My RH has a max of 119 people, so they are a smaller venue....but they are fantastic.
Good luck!

for some reason FH doesn't like Scotto Bros catering... I'm sure it's probably wonderful but I think he just had a bad experience at another catering hall they own and it left a bad taste in his mouth.

I told one place I wanted to have around 150 and he was trying to talk me into switching it from Saturday night to the day! He was really trying to talk me into it - but I didn't want to bargain for my wedding day. He was so awful on the phone that I didn't even go look at it.

i have the same sort of experiences! FH and I know we want a Saturday wedding and we know we want an evening wedding but we've just about accepted the fact that we're not having it in the evening! it really upsets me that we can't do this how we want to do it because small weddings are like a 'waste of their time'

I bet I had it even easier than you though - because I wanted it in the slower season of March. But they were still so mean to me! Good luck! Some of the places that didn't balk at my 150 guarantee (but again, this was for March) were: The Royalton, Timber Point Country Club, and the Millridge Inn. The Woodlands wanted 163 as a minumum but they were very nice about it.

thanks so much for sharing! maybe i'll check out the ones i haven't already.... FH doesn't want the Milleridge in. We went to school at Post and he was always there for Beta Alpha Psi meetings so he's Milleridge'd out. LOL thanks again!

Check out the North Ritz Club? We raised our minimum to 160 because we knew we'd be having more guests, but the original minimum was lower. We also got a GREAT price.
It doesn't hurt to try -- plus, it's 1 wedding at a time so you don't have to worry about getting a crappier room.

I'm not having a small wedding so I haven't had that experience but, maybe it's the halls that you are going to might be halls that accomodate larger parties.

My wedding is going to be around 75 people. I haven't had anybody be rude, but they definitely aren't as eager to work with me.
