I totally feel the same way. Many of the RHs we looked at were automatically crossed off once we found out the minimum for a Sat. night was 200+. In fact, Giorgio's was the only RH with a minimum of 150 for a Sat. night. But that's not the only reason why we booked with them. Just something that helped with our decision.

Re: 'small wedding' vent
we only had to guarantee 100 ppl @ WSCC. the standard guarantee at most places for saturday night is at least 125, but i found that was often negotiable when i met with the staff.

Check out the North Ritz Club? We raised our minimum to 160 because we knew we'd be having more guests, but the original minimum was lower. We also got a GREAT price.
It doesn't hurt to try -- plus, it's 1 wedding at a time so you don't have to worry about getting a crappier room.
Another vote for North Ritz Club here ... check out my review for pictures
We found that some halls were willing to lower their minimum guarantee by raising the price per person slightly. It works out better for the couple in the end ... definitely something to ask about if you find a hall you love with a minimum that's a bit higher than you want to guarantee.

NRC minimum is traditionally 175 but they are willing to do 150 at the least.

i guess it depends on where you go.. if you go to places that are designed for 200-400 people, then yes you are going to get that from them, they dont want to drop their minimum for a 150 person wedding when the could book at 300
Just playing devils advocatre here.. I know its frustrating but sometimes that is the nature of the beast .. Im sorry you are going through this.. is there any place that you have absolutely loved??

my mother fell in love with East Wind. i wasn't as hooked but i'll admit that we liked the Estate MUCH more than the Country Gardens. We're too small for the Estate. When we wanted to look at the Crescent Beach Club they wouldn't even make an appointment to meet with us for a Saturday wedding my size LOL not only that, but out of most of the places we looked at, we couldn't get married at night because the guarantee raised so much! i don't *want* a day wedding, but that's what we're going to have to settle for

East Wind is a Beautiful venue!!1 I went to a wedding there-- they were about 100 guests, and it was fantastic.. the CH was amazing and the food was fine cuisine.. trust me you would not be disapointed there!!!
And I dont think you have to settle for a day wedding.. there are soo many gorgeous places that can accomodate you.. how about the Village Club of lake Success.. they have a flexible minimum and a beautiful glass enclosed ballroom that looks out over the lake...

That's so frustrating you can't get what you want. But I wouldn't give up - there has to be someplace you love that will work! Although I admit - I did raise my guarantee so I could get the place I wanted. We're just going to pay for 200 people no matter who comes (mom is helping, luckily!) - and the overall cost including everything was actually less than it would have been to have only 150 at a few of the other places we looked at. So it worked out.

I kind of agree..of course they are in it for the money, so if they can make double the money for the same time slot/same room..that is exactly what they are going to try to do. I would try finding RHs that have smaller rooms to begin with. But i suggest meeting with them, I found that over the phone they usually quote you a minimum and a price, and in person they are much more flexible..
I'm havng a small wedding of about 120 guests..and over the phone, the places I called didn't seem too eager about it..but a lot of places I met with in person were great about it..but I might be having a little bit of a diff. experience beings I am looking for a Sunday or Thursday nite...
What are you looking for in a hall? Maybe I can help you find some pretty ones for a smaller wedding?

well it's good to hear you had a good EW experience (I guess it was in the Country Gardens considering the party was so small). I felt the Country Gardens was a bit more restricting than the estate. You only have what's there and if it rains that day they have to rush to get your outdoor ceremony indoors. that worries me! there's also not a lot of photo ops there - that little waterfall and the gazebo is about it. you didn't feel restricted by how small the space was there? also, the english decor really wasn't my style although my mother (whose giving a lot of money towards it) fell in love!

I think you'll find your dream hall on a Sunday or Thursday for 120 ppl. we're having about the same amount but FH and I want a Saturday night wedding, which really raises the guarantee! we can't pay for 200 people and have 120. LOL this w/e we have appointments w/ a few more. and then we'll make the final decision. if we don't, maybe i'll take you up on your offer to help me find more!!!

FH always says the East Wind weddings we've been to were his favorite. He really wanted us to have ours there but that is where one of my matron of honor's was so I wanted my 'own' place. But it really is beautiful and the food is delicious!

We're more than likely booking George Washington Manor.
Our guarantee for the Presidential room on a Saturday afternoon is 60 (our guest list is 95) and it fits up to 120.
They have another room that fits 95-150.
Two Star menu on Sat. night will be $95 pp, three star menu will be $120.

Thanks for the good review!!! Even my priest said he's been to functions there and liked it! LOL
We're doing our tasting there Saturday afternoon -- pretty much just a formality at this point.
