I just got engaged 2 weeks ago, and I'm new to LI weddings. I'm looking to get married spring '08, but I'm getting frustrated looking at places to hold the reception. We will be having a small wedding (125-150) and most places want a guarantee of much higher than that on a weekend evening. Does anybody have any suggestions to nice places that cater to smaller affairs?

Re: small weddings
My RH, the Coral House has a minimum of 100, which is what I booked my wedding for.

I am getting married at Chateau Briand and I am having the least 140. They can work with your minimum.

Re: small weddings
I think the problem with your # is some places have rooms that cater to 125 or less and then the same place might have another room with a minimum of 150. If you can guarantee 150 it shouldn't be a problem, unless you plan on getting married on a saturday night, a lot of places have a higher minimum than that. The carriage house at the milleridge has a smaller minimum and westbury manor does too.

I agree. With the Chateau Briand they quoted me at a higher minimum than what I wanted and when I went back to book I negotiated some things and the minimum was one of them. They didn't have a problem lowering it at all. Just tell the RH you don't want a high minimum and see what they say.

Re: small weddings
I am booked at Jericho Terrace and we will be having 125-150. Our guarentee of people was less if we went with the afternoon, which was perfect we wanted an afternoon wedding anyway! For the same wedding on that Saturday, but at night... we had to guartee 175!!! So, if that's a possibility, inquire at RH about afternoons! Good luck.

The Riviera right on water min 100 guarantee, one wedding at a time, and we got a phenomenal price for Sunday evening March 30 2008 per guest... Also we arent even gonna have 100 people, so 'extras' were thrown in to compensate.... FM me if you want some quotes

Re: small weddings
I am having mine at Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst and the minimum is about that. they have 2 rooms to choose from
Congrats on your Engagement! Welcome to the addiction.
You will have no problem finding a reception hall for that amount of people. Depending on the time of year and day of the week, some halls are more flexable. I am getting married at Flowerfield and I have guarenteed 130 for a Sunday night in April.
Take a look at the reception halls on this site. I believe they have a good description of each.
Good Luck! Let us know how you make out!

i checked out stewart manor too...it looks kind of small from the outside, but the reception room is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! def give that a try!!
also, we are booked at the beach club estate in ronkonkoma. the reception room is pretty small (which i actually like but that might not be what you're looking for) but the grounds are BEAUTIFUL, making for great pics and you can have your reception outdoors facing the lake, which i love.
good luck!!

Re: small weddings
Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the boards. I don't think your wedding is small at all... my list is maxed out at 123 and pretty much know only 90 people will probably show and to most people that is small IoI
Chateau Le Mer has an upstairs room with a min depending on your day from 80-90 people and i think your min would also be able to get you in the ballroom possibly if its an off season date.
I don't think that's a small wedding at all! But then again I originally want 50 people. But now my minimum is 110 at Fox Hollow for a sunday evening. Saturday evening was 130. We're in the Winter Garden pavillon. There are some pics in my album.
What type of place are you looking for? On the water, garden, etc... then we'd be able to offer more suggestions.
