I have never been to Vegas, but I don't think that's a bad idea, to stay in an inexpensive place.

I'd look at sites like epinions.com and tripadvisor.com to find some clean hotels in your budget. There are good reviews there.

Well... here is my advice.

If you walk into the hotel lobby or into one of the rooms and experience any of the following... RUN!

- You see *hourly* rates posted before daily rates

- You go into a room... turn on the TV... and the porn channel is the default channel (and sometimes ONLY channel) on the TV

- A hot woman (or man) comes up to you and offers to 'show you' the room (or their room)

- You can hear the moans and grunts coming from the rooms windows - while you are OUTSIDE the hotel

Good luck!

We did that at Disney once and were VERY SORRY!

Did you try pricing the Palace Station hotel or the Stratosphere? They are usually less expensive.

YOu can stay at a cheap hotel, but it will be off the strip and you will need a cap to get there every night. I would look around for deals for the strip, they are out there.

When I went for business, I was right outside the strip at the Days Inn. It was fine, but I felt it took away from the experience a little, and by the time we finished paying cab fare for all of the trips we made, we could have stayed on the strip. If the price difference is substantial, I'd consider it. Otherwise, if you won't have a car, I'd forget it.
