Smelly Co-Worker-update

So there is an older man that has worked here for about 25 years. He sits across from me-about 15 feet away. Over the past few days I have noticed an odor coming from that direction. Today it is unbearable-I am sitting here sick to my stomach. It smells like a combination of cigarettes & cat urine-disgusting. I cant even eat my breakfast right now.

I have no idea how to say something without hurting his feelings. Should I just got to HR?

update: spoke to HR said they are aware of the problem....however they are trying to figure out a way to handle it without upsetting him as he has been here so long WHAT?? I told them that I feel sick, it is effecting me & they can pay me to sit home until they rectify the problem. Thye said that they will handle it today-I told them if it is not done by noon i am going home.

Buy some air fresheners...the oust battery operated fans are AWESOME. Maybe pay someone $5 to walk up to your desk and say: what is that awful smell while standing closer to him?

Sorry it stinks.

If it's a new thing, maybe give it a week from the first day it started, see if it's just a temporary thing?

Fans are good, you could blow the fan towards him so it changes the direction of the stink cloud. Maybe get what Cheryl said, some kind of air freshener you could plug in at your desk temporarily?

Sorry work is stinky.

He's probably decaying from the inside out....go to HR immediately...there's no reason that you should have to put up with it, and it's a santiary problem!

it could be medicinally induced odor. Some treatments for certain diseases result in foul body odor or bad breathe - (especially since he is older).

Hopefully it is something he can control

Eeeewwww oh my goodness!

I hope HR speaks to him. I think its so wrong not to let people know that they have a foul odor...If I smelled I would so appreciate someone telling me this.
