Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
I'm getting married at watermill and after speaking with my photographer really want to take some beach pictures before my reception. Has anyone ever heard of short beach or any beach in that area.I am trying to stay good on time and church starts at 3:30 unless I can get them to move it up to 3, we arent doing a recieving line and no mass but its in farmingdale I want to find a place either on the way or near watermill so I can make it for my cocktail or at least part of it that starts at 6pm.

Short beach is gorgeous and not too far at all from the Watermill. You can also check out Stony Brook harbour-it's right by the Three Village Inn. That's an awesome place for pictures and you can easily get to Route 347 from there.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
The Short beach in Smithtown, you would need to be a resident. However, if you made advance notice, they might let you in. The Stony Brook harbour, I don't think you need to be a resident. I've seen tons of people having pictures done there and it's somewhat of a local tourist attraction. Another option is this sanctuary in Old Feld. It'sright by the Old Field post office-is not beach pictures but it's so beautiful!

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
Hey! Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I have some more info. If you really want beach pictures in Smithtown, did the woman you spoke to recommend Long Beach in Smithtown?? It's a short drive from Short Beach. There's a big hill there although, you might need to be a resident.About the sanctuary--it's called the Frank Melville Memorial Park. I found a site with a picture and some info.

Go to the area where it says general. You can contact the Three Village Historical Society for more info on it-631.751.3730.
Hope this helps!!

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
I second Long Beach in Smithtown! I think it might be kind of a hike for you to go out to Stony Brook / Setauket for your pictures - especially if you're going to be pressed for time.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
You could go to west meadow beach, which is in old field. Its probably about 20 minutes away from watermill. Also, on the way are some pretty duck poinds & little stone bridges. You'd take 347 to Nicholls Rd north to 25A & then a left onto Main Street in Setauket & just follow the signs from there.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
Stony Brook / Setauket, like Sheppy said, is about 20 minutes from the Watermill (without traffic). From Farmingdale, I'd say it is about 45 minutes. The problem is that Stony Brook is so far north and a several miles east of Smithtown. If you choose a beach in Smithtown, all you have to do is go north. One more thing - you need a town of Brookhaven sticker to get into West Meadow Beach. If you want beach shots and you don't mind going to Stony Brook, I'd check out Stony Brook harbor - down by the village (right by the Three Village Inn if you know where that is) is a beach, a harbor and a field with a little pond and flowers.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
I would assume that they start charging after Memorial Day weekend. I wouldn't count on that though - I went to Sunken Meadow for my engagement pictures at the end of April and they were charging already! I actually didn't even think that Long Beach charged - I just thought you had to be a resident to get in. I don't think I've ever been charged a fee there.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
One more thing - Did you think about checking out Sunken Meadow? It is convenient because it is right off a main highway - I would say more convenient than Long or Short Beach. You also don't need to be a resident to get in. There is a field (the last one to the right) that is never, ever crowded (except for fishermen). You can get great beach shots there - There are lots of dunes which can make a great backdrop for beach pictures too.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
Hmmm didnt think of that either, basically I dont care where i go just as long as its a beach with sand I mean there is no blue water anywhere on li anyway lol. And of course the place that will take the shortest amount of time to get to, SUnken meadow might work too, I should really try making the drive out to check out the places and time it.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
I know this sounds weird but in the color pictures from our engagement shoot at Sunken Meadow the water looked SO blue! Everyone asked where we got them taken. I think if it is a nice day, any water will look pretty blue. The more I think about it, the more I think Sunken Meadow is your best bet. To get to Short and Long beach you have to drive all windy side roads - it takes kind of a while. Sunken Meadow, being right off the parkway, will probably be the least time consuming - Plus no worry about residency issues.

Re: Smithtown beaches/places to take pics
Tara - I am sorry - I don't have a scanner. I know Shamma96 used the same photographer and had her engagement shots done at Sunken Meadow too. She emailed me some of her pictures. I will try to get some of my pictures scanned somehow. If you want, you can give me your email address and I'll try to get them to you asap.
