i used to smoke...i admit that i still occasionally have some when i drink...but i dont buy packs or some beside being really drunk....i will say that even though i was never a heavy smoker it was hard in the beginning but i don't even miss them anymore. It gets easier as time goes on!!!

Same here. Good luck - you can do it!!

Just remember you CAN do this. They are just rolled up pieces of paper with gunk in them. They have no control over you. You are powerful, they are not.

Ditto.... FH quit on Saturday and he is doing great.... he admitted to having one in the am with this morning coffee bc he said that will be the hardest thing to do is have a cup with not cigarette. He is doing the patches and they seem to be working. I am so proud of him... and he was a HEAVY smoker!!

GL you can do it!!!!!

Re: Smoking

Ugh, I need to quit so bad. I'm just nervous that I'll want one when I go out with my friends. They all smoke! Except one who is a social smoker, but if I quit, then I want to quit for good.

Re: Smoking

I quit when FH told me he would never consider marrying me if I continued to smoke! I felt so bad about it that I just decided one day to stop. Do you know anyone that smokes? For me it was less about the oral fixation and more about the socialization of it. I took myself away from all the people I know that did it...it made it a lot easier for me. Also, I stayed inside more (where I couldn't smoke) and hung out with non-smoker friends. You'd be surprised...if you keep yourself really busy (and planning a wedding does that) you'll forget about it slowly but surely. I used to say, 'I haven't thought about smoking for 3 days!' Then it was 4 days, then a week...etc. Now I'm 11 months smoke free!!!!

Re: Smoking

You can do this! I will celebrate my 3-year, smoke-free anniversary this summer, and I was a regular, pack a day smoker. I tried to quit several times cold turkey and when it didn't work I knew I needed a method - so, I used the Commit lozenge and I HIGHLY recommend this. It's better than the gum because it just rests inside your mouth, between your cheek and teeth and sloooowly disolves, releasing nicotine into your system. They last about 30-40 each and you just follow the directions regarding how many to take, how often, etc. Also, they totally take the edge off, they are great - completely curbed my cravings. And, like the gum, you slowly cut back. Since they are in your mouth such a long time, you can't eat unnecessarily, so you don't gain weight either. My sister used them to quit after me and we both swear by them. Good luck - FM me if you need to talk or want more info about the lozenges!
