Re: Smoking
I stopped a year and 8 months ago.
My tip: GUM. Smoking is mostly an oral fixation, so make sure you have chewing gum or sucking candies around all the time

Re: Smoking
Hey Jill- Today is day 7 for me also. I am doing it on the patch. Last week was very hard, (there was actually 2 days i felt like a drug addict kicking my habit) but so far yesterday and today hasnt been too bad. i did have a total meltdown on Sunday and almost went to buy pack but FH helped talk me through it. Are you using any kind of patch or nicotine gum? Its helping me. I keep telling myself how much healthier I will be and the money I am saving is going to a special jar to surprise FH with a vacation somewhere. You can do it! If you want to talk, feel free to FM me

Re: Smoking
I quit in November 2007. It's SO hard. I get in trouble because I still smoke once in awhile when I drink. Get the 'fake cigarettes'...they helped me.

Re: Smoking
FH is on day 6 or 7 today actually toO!! he quit cold turkey
and the gum and sucky candy is really important for him...he keeps dum dum lollipops in his truck that i gave him, so at work, whenever he usually goes to his truck for a cigarette, he gets a lolli instead
and he chews gum every time he has an urge as well.
its hard, but they say it takes 21 days to kick a habit (so the mental addiction part) so u are 1/3 of your way there!!! after 21 days wiht NO cigarettes, YOU WILL NOT BE ADDICTED AT ALL so keep going!!

Re: Smoking
here is something encouraging i found online and gave to FH also...ahh u can't see the picture well on here...ill copy n past the info:
I think one of the main reasons it’s so hard to quit smoking is because all the benefits of quitting and all the dangers of continuing seem very far away. Well, here’s a little timeline about some of the more immediate effects of quitting smoking and how that will affect your body RIGHT NOW.
In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal. In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal. In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level. In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase. In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks. In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%. In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half. In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker. In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker. In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker. So, you have more immediate things to look forward to if you quit now besides just freaking out about not being able to smoke.
Thanks everyone, your all making me feel better about this!!

Re: Smoking
i will be your #1 supporter. i HATE cigarettes...i hate verything about them...the smell, the taste the cost! You are doing not only your body a favor but to those around you. Smoking in a way is selfish to me, its like you don’t care that you are killing yourself. Your loved ones around you will thank you for keeping yourself healthy. It will make you a good role model to your children. Fight through the cravings and keep up the good work. i have heard it is hard to quit but you will feel so much better in the future!!!!!

Re: Smoking
i used to smoke...i admit that i still occasionally have some when i drink...but i dont buy packs or some beside being really drunk....i will say that even though i was never a heavy smoker it was hard in the beginning but i don't even miss them anymore. It gets easier as time goes on!!!

Re: Smoking
Stay focused and you can do it!!! Its a seriously hard habit to quit but it really is all mental. My mother still has a hard time with her habit and she goes back and forth between quitting and not but I truly believe that you can do it if you stay focused!!!
