Would you ever 'sneak' into a wedding to see a vendor?
A potential vendor I'm checking out suggested that if I'm in town while he is playing at a wedding I could 'sneak in' to hear him play! I was shocked!
How could he do that? I would freak if I knew one of my vendors suggested that. Could you imagine strangers showing up at your wedding and milling around? They could even be caught in photos and I'm sure they wouldn't be dressed to impress. Aunt Millie, who is the guy in the flip flops next to you?
Has anyone else heard this from other vendors? How would you feel if one of your vendors did this?
still in shock... Laura

They had that on the Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez! But you're not supposed to eat the food and I guess you're supposed to dress nicely enough to blend in. I don't think I'd like it myself but people are more easy going about weddings than I am.

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
Back when my parents got married that is what you did. They band would tell them what wedding they were playing at and they would show up dressed nicely and listen to the band. I thought that was so funny when they told me that, but I guess times have changed. I wouldn't do it personally, I would feel weird.

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
No, I would NEVER sneak in on another bride and groom's special day just to check out one of their vendors. My mother suggested we do that with our DJ and I was appalled. She suggested it to the DJ who said that he would NEVER invite prospective clients to another wedding. I think that's insane, and I'd be upset if a vendor of mine told another couple to crash our wedding.

I personally wouldn't really care if they knew well enough to dress nice and stay out of the way, obviously not eat the food etc. That said, people are just so clueless nowadays so I wouldn't trust ppl to do so. Back in the day it probably would have been fine.

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
I don't think it's that big of a deal.. as long as it's done discreetly.
When I was looking at halls, a certain reception hall suggested that I come on that Saturday at a certain time to see the main room decorated for a real wedding (while the cocktail hour was going on outside)... and we did. We were only there for 5 mins tops, and no one in the wedding saw us at all.

I dont know- I think thats a little different- none of the other wedding's guests saw you- here she would be going in to listen to the band- while the wedding reception is going on. I wouldnt have been ok with strangers at my wedding.
to the op- if you book with this band, make sure to put in your contract that they can not invite prospective clients to your wedding to see them

I can understand it when the RH says to come back when they are having a party to see the room set up. The vendor in a way, in my opinion anyway, doesn't have the right to tell you to go to someone else's event.
They should be able to provide you with video's, pictures, or even tell u to see them at a showcase.

I agree that's different... i did the same thing. We saw a reception room decorated while the ceremony was still going on so noone saw us... I would be annoyed if strangers walked into my room while i was having my reception to listen to my band!! NOT COOL!

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
My decorator/florist suggested I do that. She said she was doing a wedding 3 months before mine where the bride had very similar taste. I didn't think it was a big deal. I would've been there for less than 10 minutes. The only reason I didn't go was because it was in Connecticut on a Friday and there's no way I would've been able to make it before 8pm.
A guest at my wedding said she saw an old friend from her high school at my wedding just checking out my decor. I really didn't care. They didn't eat or drink anything and stayed less than 10 minutes. If it helped another bride plan her big day, what's the big deal?

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
Oh and we went to look at Watermill and they had us waiting in the entrance area and the bride and groom were walking right by us with their wedding party! It was like noon so we were in jeans! Me, FH and my mom all felt so bad and stupid and that alone made us not book there.

Don't be shocked! When I was researching for DJ's I had one tell me the same exact thing. How in the world do you expect me to feel comfortable doing something like that? I would never want to invade on someone else's day because I wouldn't want it to happen to me. The wedding was taking place at the Sterling and he said I could drop by maybe 2 hrs before the reception was over. I never went and didn't want to after that.

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
I'd gone to check out other weddings before booking my Rabbi, MC, restaurant, florist. But I did so before the wedding had begun, or I would watch from the manager's office (they often have TVs that show what's going on in the other rooms of the hall).

I would never do this. I also would never want someone to do this to me!! I guess I am lucky that my RH is so far away. I never heard a vendor say this before either.

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
No way! I would not want that done to me. With all the information available these days, there is no need to sneak into a wedding to check out a vendor. Go to a showcase, or post a question here. Everyone here is cool & eager to help.

Re: Sneaking into a wedding???
i personally wouldnt like it if some stranger snuck into my wedding.... and i dont think id be comfortable booking a vendor that told me to do this either, it just makes me think that he would suggest to everyone and their mother to do the same to me
