Snobby Vender!

Snobby Vender!

I just a call from a snobby vender telling me that my budget is unrealisic! Oh I wanted to smack him! He first told me that my idea of a wedding sounded cheap and that with all the fees that a hall cost I would be impossible for my wedding to be so cheap! I told him I wanted to only rent a hall, he wouldn't let me speak. He shut me up, didn't want to hear that I didn't want to an open bar, but only to serve just wine and beer. He was telling me with the prices of linens and flowers and cake cutting fees, and bands and so on... Like I'm going to spend a fortune on flowers, allow a cake cutting fee when I'm bring my own damn cake! And who said I want to use a band? I have friend who is DJing for FREE! What jerk! Even if I don't get to have my wedding at the castle and I have the UU church in huntington instead, I'm going to send him a picture of my lovely wedding and tell him this is what wedding is for $5,000 bucks and I didn't need to use his nasty cheap hall any way!

So sorry, but I know exactly how you feel. It happened to us several times only to find that with some more perseverance we did find the vendors that were willing to do it and it turned out great! So don't listen to them, I don't know why they feel that if they make you feel bad about your choices you'll suddenly change your mind, spend more money and book them. Why can't they just say I'm sorry I can't help you, good luck with your planning.

How many people are you having? I know a really nice, quaint hall in East Meadow, where I had my moms 50th birthday party and it was gorgeous. They have a nice bar inside and the outside is huge. They have a DJ booth and a nice dance floor.

Time is NOT running out. Try to stay calm and breathe. I planned my wedding in about 6 months...booked almost everything in October (including hall) for a May wedding. You have over a year...just do one thing at a time...stay focused and don't let things get to you. Happy planning!

Have you tried the Holbrook Country Club
It's a nice size hall and dance floor...we ha my cousin's bridal shower there and my sister in law had her 1st wedding there....it was so nice...and reasonably priced...about $30 per person....and the food was good and plenty of it.

Re: Snobby Vender!

I might just use the huntington UU church. Ididn't want to get married in a church but hell for 1200 I get the whole church pretty much out side and in. That includes the kitchen. I have friends who have their own catering. I just might do that. I didn't want a church wedding but it seems like I have too. Its a beautiful church. If I can't find something near port washington, for the sandspoint castle, then I'll just give up and go to huntington!

Re: Snobby Vender!

that is utter crap. unfortunately people forget these days that it doesn't take much money at all to get married....it takes a lot to put the shows on that we want. we all want to celebrate in different ways, to varying degrees, and with dramatically varying budgets. you should send him a pick...along with the picture of a jackass!

it might be a little pricey for you depending on what you want to do (and spend) but have you checked out the Foundry in LIC. I think for your theme it would be fantastic (Iwas going to have my Dirty-30 there before I got engaged) they also have particular rules about catering, but it's definitely worth a look-see.

Good luck!!!!

Re: Snobby Vender!

Just a thought. You guys are planning a medeival (sp?) wedding, right? When I think medival, I think of certain kinds of places that have that taverny look of the white textured walls and really dark wood beams, etc. Short of a castle, of course, but not everyone can afford a castle so I'm thinking budget here. I think it's Stuart Manor Country Club that has that kind of a room, it looks very old world European and kind of rustic but in a classy way. There are several retaurants with that kind of decor. Zum Stamtisch is Queens has that kind of feel and I know there are others. Just some suggestions. I'll keep thinking on it. Some friends of mine that did the same theme, used a performing arts center and were able to contstruct sets to make it resemble a castle. that was in Colorado and that might be tough to do here.

Re: Snobby Vender!

what type of hall was it ( you don't have to name names)
If it was a VFW type palce, where you can just rent the space & do whatever, he shouldn't have been giving you cr@p.

If it is a hall that has servers, they almost always charge a cake cutting fee if you bring your own cake.

That's what that place is!?! I've seen it a billion times but never knew exactly what it was. That would be perfect for your theme!
