Snoring problems: Do any of you snore and how do you solve it?

I am the odd one here. FH and I have constant arguments at bedtime because of my snoring. Lately its gotten so bad that FH sleeps on the couch or he elbows me so much that I am forced to lay awake until the alarm goes off, or move myself to the couch.

Guest room in our place is not an option, we only have a small 1 bedroom home.I have tried the Breathe Right strips, including the throat spray, and rubbing Vicks under my nose and on my throat/chest.

FH says nothing works, at 3 am every night its like the 'factory' in my throat starts up and I snore loudly. I don't know what to do - other than going to a sleep study but I am pretty sure I do not have sleep apnea, I dont stop breathing during the night or anything.

FH is a super light sleeper and now is telling me he may not even marry me if I cant get this snoring problem under control help!

Maybe you have adenoids. I know that adults don't usually get them but I have heard of rare instances where they grow back or never leave. They might be really big and blocking your airway. My son snored really loud they are removed now and he sleeps ALOT more quietly. You should get it checked out. Go see an ENT doc.

If not tell your FH do get earplugs lol.

you might need to go for a sleep apnea test. You might not be getting enough oxygen/air while you are sleeping. My dad has to wear this mask and since he has he doesn't snore.

You may have sleep apnea. I used to snore like a truck and kept my fh awake all night. Now I have the cpap machine and the first night I used it, fh woke me up in the middle of the night to make sure I was ok cause I wasn't snoring at all and I don't move when I sleep so he got worried. lol

Not sure where you live but I had my sleep study done at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. And they were great there, the beds were very comfy, the man told me he never saw anyone fall asleep so fast. lol

for those who have done sleep studies:

is it covered by your health insurance?
is it overnight or just a few hours?
only weekday nights or can it be like a Fri or Sat night?

I live in Nassau but work in the city. I am open to any suggestions at this point!!

My sleep study was covered by my insurance.

It is overnight, I had to be there at 9pm and the study was done by 6am

Mine was on a Friday night

My sons was covered by insurance. Its over night I think we went from 10pm-5am. It was something like that.

We did ours during the week. I don't know about weekends.

Like many already said, sleep apnea is a possibility...

Possibly if you sleep in such a position that your airway remains straight and open it will help your snoring. If you move your chin up and down, you'll notice air moves more freely when your chin is pointed out and away from your chest, but if you bend your neck so your chin touchesyour chest, it's harder to move air through. So if you support your head and neck to realign your airway, it could help.
I notice that when FH sleeps over my house or if he falls asleep on the couch on his back, he snores more. If I reposition him so he's on his side or with a better pillow, it stops.

I don't know much about any particular one, but they make them for different lseeping styles depending on what positiong you generally like gto sleep it

ETA, I'd def continue to look into the sleep study, but this might be a good interim/temp/easy fix. Good luck!

My FH snores...I sleep with earplugs in. When he leaves for work in the morning he wakes me enough to make sure I take them out so I hear the alarm go off.

Could he try that?

he hates ear plugs..he refuses to wear it..He is actually sleeping on an air mattress in the living room right now because he needs a good nights sleep.

Also tried sleeping positions..it is to no avail. We've had this problem for over a year now but lately its gotten worse. I am def on the plan to lose weight (I think that def plays a factor, I did put on a few) but I need a quick short term fix!! wondering if there are any foods or liquids I can take before bedtime to just reduce the snoring?

Not really... stay away from alcohol but I'd imagine that's not really a factor if this is a consistent problem... at least I hope not!
Losing weight can help, depending on what kind of weight you're carrying and where it is on your body.

Srsly, try the pillow thing

you guys should get a white noise machine or run a box fan on high.. so he can't really hear you.

they also have pillows for snorers.

he used to run the air conditioner on High the entire summer...and recently used a fan in the bedroom to 'drown' out the noice..But this past week, he had to move the fan into the basement because our basement flooded (last weekend's rain storm caused major havoc for us) so basically there has been no buffer...and even w. the fan on, he woukd poke me every hour so in the AM we were both walking zombies!

I am even considering doing those Hypnosis CD's..there has to be one for telling your body to stop snoring? could there be?? ugh..i am so sleep deprived!!

do you also have sinus issues? like do you wake up with junk in the back of your throat??
try rinising with neil med sinus rinse nedi pot before bed. this really helped my snoring problem which is linked almost 100 percent to my sinus problem my doctors said.

My FH uses those strips when I sleep over and they do help. He will still snore a little bit if he's on his back, but the strips help.
