Snoring problems: Do any of you snore and how do you solve it?

Original post by LauraluvsSean

I am the odd one here. FH and I have constant arguments at bedtime because of my snoring. Lately its gotten so bad that FH sleeps on the couch or he elbows me so much that I am forced to lay awake until the alarm goes off, or move myself to the couch.

Guest room in our place is not an option, we only have a small 1 bedroom home.I have tried the Breathe Right strips, including the throat spray, and rubbing Vicks under my nose and on my throat/chest.

FH says nothing works, at 3 am every night its like the 'factory' in my throat starts up and I snore loudly. I don't know what to do - other than going to a sleep study but I am pretty sure I do not have sleep apnea, I dont stop breathing during the night or anything.

FH is a super light sleeper and now is telling me he may not even marry me if I cant get this snoring problem under control help!

My FH snores. Right now its not bad. I do use the fan for white noise which is fine. I have also used earplugs when I think I needed them.

But I think you need to go to the sleep study. Thats going to be your first line of defense in TRYING to figure out whats wrong.

They will be able to tell you if its apnea or not.

I have heard that it could be a uvula problem and people have it taken out.

But in the large scheme of things you should start with some medical advice, the sleep study. That will give you a SOLID look into why you are snoring and what you can do about it.

Good luck!

ok, you wouldn't know if you have sleep apnea, because you would be sleeping. i wouls STRONGLY recommend that you go to a doctor to find out what is wrong. very often, its because you might have some sort of blockage in your nasal cavity that doesn't allow air to pass through - but this can be corrected.

Snoring is usually worse when you're on your back. This is a suggestion I heard about somewhere -

Take a golf ball or something small and light and put it into an old sock. Sew the sock onto the back of an old shirt. When you roll onto your back, you will automatically switch back to your side or stomach because it will be uncomfortable because of the ball. Some people have also used a tennis ball.

HTH!

... I understand that FH is a super Light sleeper.. but when we marry someone - we're pretty much vowing to take the good the bad and the ugly... I think it's great that you're trying to better your situation but I think it is HORRIBLE that your FH would say something to the extent that he wouldn't marry you (unless he was joking) but if he's so easily annoyed by something such as this how is he going to handle the bigger situations which anyone undoubtly faces in a marriage?? ...this can't be his excuse at every turn; what if you gain a couple pounds during pregnancy??? I guess the statement kind of stood out to me... if he wasn't kidding ~ at the very least if you're trying to combat your snoring habit & your taking effective action....you should also take the time to talk to him about his statement bc I don't think this should be a reason for him to threaten your impending marriage... I don't take things like that lightly I guess... and I would most certainly address this before any snoring issue....
