Snowblowers?

What brand do you have? Is it electric or gas- what's the difference?

I am considering getting Toro
1800 Power Curve Electric Snow Thrower
- anyone have this one?

We have MTD Yard Machines. Our neighbor has used this brand for years and never had a problem. Definitely get a gas blower. The electric ones are cheaper but have to be plugged in to work.

We plan to get an electric one. Sometimes DH travels and if it snows when he is away, I'll have to use it, I'd never be comfortable w/gas.

DH only wanted gas ... I got it at Sears ...

Craftsman 8.0 hp Snowthrower

Sears item #07188180000 Mfr. model #88180000

This powerful snowthrower is ideal for deeper snow and has the ability to take in up to 16 inches of snow. Electric start provides easy starting even in the coldest temperatures. 8 hp Briggs & Stratton Powerbuilt OHV engine for less noise and vibration

We 'inherited' an electric one from one of my FIL's customers. It was never used. I would rather have a gas one, but since this was free and we don't have a huge driveway- I don't care! Esp. since my DH braves the cold and snow to do it! I keep warm inside !

DH wants a gas one. We were in Home Depot yesterday and he mentioned going in with the neighbor on it. Who knows!

I would go into Home Depot and look by the snow blowers. They have a guide as to which one is best for you based on your needs. I have a rather large driveway, so I purchased a larger than average one from Home Depot (an Ariens ) back in October. If you are thinking of getting one, I would do it now - before a major storm hits and they are all out of stock.

i think we are going to go to sears or home depot this weekend to buy one. DH prefers the gas over the electric. thinking of going w/ a craftsman.

We just bought the 1800 Toro one, the woman who worked at Home Depot also bought it and loved it, I think for our needs it will be perfect. This is a helpful site. We wanted electric as my DH travels and there probably will be times I have to take care of snowfall.

I'm not exactly sure .. but that electric Toro might be the one that we got as a gift.

Hubby used it the other day .. he didn't feel like using a snowblower was much easier than shoveling .. which I find hard to believe .. but he was pretty hot when he came in .. though I do think he probably over-dressed. The other complaint .. was that the snow would blow up into his face .. which I'm sure happens with any snowblower. When I watched him for a bit .. it did seem to work pretty well .. and didn't seem like it was too intense.

We do have a problem, though .. one of the stupid newspaper things that get tossed onto our yard (seemingly everyday) got sucked up into the blower .. and is wedged in there .. so we'll have to take it apart or something .. which sux because it was already assembled for us when it was given to us!

I hate those friggin papers .. we get them all the time .. and we never even look at them .. but are constantly picking them up and tossing them .. this really ticks me off that one got buried in the snow and may have ruined our snowblower! And this was the first time it was used, too!!!

Re: Snowblowers?

Kel, I am sorry to hear about what happened w/the paper and the snow blower. I hope it can be fixed easily.
