SO aggravated!-long

I am so aggravated! We picked out these awesome scroll invitations. We love them and my mom, sis, uncle and FH's parents loved. Finally I showed my dad and step-mother. They didn't seem blown away. The next day my dad calls and says'I think they are a nice novelty, but I don't think they go with the theme of your wedding.' I was like, 'I don't have a THEME!' I know he picked that up from my step-mother. Then he tell's me that he thinks the wording is wrong cause it seems like he and my mother are still married. My step-mother isn't on the invitation cause she isn't hosting and doesn't call me her step-child (but that's another story) Anyway, the wedding is hosted by us and our parents so the wording was:
Jane and John Smith
and
Bob and Mary Jones
request the honor...
Is that wrong??? I feel like I don't want to show them ANYTHING for or about our wedding again!

does your mom have a new last name now that they are not together? maybe that is what he means?

can you say:

Mary Jones and Bob Smith
and
Harry and Linda White

My parents are divorced and and we are paying for the wedding. We didn't put their names up top. We put their names at the bottom of the invite, we put:

Ms. Jane Smith (My mom)
Mr. John Smith (My Dad)
Mr. and Mrs. John Doe (Fh's parents)

ETA: My Dad is remarried and I despise (sp?) his wife and would rather die than put her name on the invite

My mom has the same last name. And I wanted the wording to be as close to traditional as possible.

So if that's how you want it, then leave it. One thing i have learned while planning our wedding is that there is NO way to make everyone happy. Good Luck
