SO ANGRY!!! NWR

SO ANGRY!!! NWR

I just received a letter from my doctors office saying I was in the office the same day that someone was there that has tested positive for TB!!! Can you believe this. I called the office and they said I have to pay my co-pay and it will be put through on my insurance!!! I am shocked that this is the way they are handling it. The girl said I didn't have to get tested but it is recommended. I asked what the symptoms were and she said coughing up blood! I researched and that is not the only symptom. I am so stressed now!!! This is the last thing I need added to my full plate! Anyone else have this?

that ***** that you have to pay the co-payment for another trip to the doctors for the TB shot.

But look at it on the bright side....atleast they told you

but don't worry to much about contracting it. my brother tested positive last year and my whole family needed to get the shot- no one else had it. he just had to take medicine for 9 months (which stunk but hey it wasnt like he had the active virus he was just tested positive so maybe that is what is up with the person who was tested positive which means just go get the shot to make sure

but i am sorry they are dealing with it like that

OMG I would be angry too. But I guess the doctors office cant always know someone is going to have an infectious disease in the waiting room. You shouldnt have to pay a copay though thats for sure. Get tested asap. Im pretty sure you will be fine though. Sorry

Thanks girls, I wouldn't be so nervous, but my friend just had a baby last week and I have been around him! I also think the letter was a poor choice, they should have called!

A letter? It was probably sent in bulkmail too! That kind of stuff ticks me off. They should have called you right away! Definitely get tested. The $20 will give you peace of mind! But you're right you shouldn't have to pay it!

You should call your insurance company and see what they say. Maybe the doctor's office will be pocketing your money and everyone else's because they won't be submitting the claims for the tests. You'd be surprised of the fraud that goes on in the healthcare industry!

Re: SO ANGRY!!! NWR

the shot only tests to see if you have been exposed alot of people come back positive with the PPD the only way to really see if you test + for TB is a Chest X-Ray

ETA: alot of people test positive due to the fact that they were not born in the US and in most other countrys they have a vaccine for TB its not approved to be used here so if they are unaware they were vaccinated and get the TB test they come up +

I'm sorry you're freaked out, but you should check - do they have active TB or do they just test positive on the skin test? If you test positive for the skin test it just means you have been exposed to someone that has TB sometime in you life. It doesn't mean you HAVE TB. Most people that work with immigrants from 3rd world countries, or have been to 3rd world countries test positive. I test positive. I do not have TB, but I do test positive. I have to be tested every couple of years because I am a teacher. Instead of getting the skin test, I just get my lungs x-rayed. I do not have TB nor can anyone catch it from me. I remember when I first tested positive my boyfriend at the time freaked out, but it doesn't really mean anything unless you have ACTIVE TB.
Does that help?

That is definitely the last thing you need!!! Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant believe you have to pay your co-pay. Doctors are such jerks at times.
