Im assembling my favors (butterfly shaped seed paper in vellum envelopes with a ribbon tied through the top of the envelope) and for some reason the ribbon they sent me is way too long, so I have to trim it to look right and I HATE CUTTING RIBBON! My favors look like pure cr@p bc every time I try to trim the ribbon, its fraying!!! Ive only done like 10 and Im giving up for the night bc they look heinous.
Any suggestions on how to cut ribbon without it fraying everywhere? My favors look so messy!
ETA: heres the one they assembled and you can see this ones even frayed and mine are MUCH worse. Worse comes to worse, I guess Ill go buy new ribbon that has less tendency to fray.

Thanks to Martha Stewart weddings hehe I have the perfect answer.
You have to cut the ribbon into a 'v' at the end. This is a sure way to prevent fraying. You can get one of those scisors with the zig zag ends at any craft store and it cuts the v in a second.
Good luck!

Re: So annoying
Pinking shears from the fabric store will stop any fraying (but that makes the edges zig zag). Otherwise any good pair of fabric scissors should do the trick (I had the same problem with the ribbon fraying while making my sister's baby shower invitations, although I just decided it looked 'vintage-y' and left it..haha

Re: So annoying
Satin ribbon will always fray. There is a product called Fray Check that may stop the fraying. Just not sure if you would see it on the ribbons. Try cutting the ribbons at an angle instead of straight. That may work.

Have you tried doing a 'V' cut into your ribbon??
Nope, but I think I will try now just to see how it works. Maybe its just my crappy scissors!
I really think that the 'V' cut wil look so good with your favor. AND, it won't fray
DItto !!! I like the V cut idea...adds a little something too !

Use a REALLY sharp scissor
Grr...Im going to put this on pause i guess and buy really sharp new scissors and then have at it again. Im worried even a sharp scissor will do the job short term and eventually theyll all fray. Ugh.
use a sharp scissor and before they start to fray, use fray-check on the ends, just a tiny bit stops it from fraying and you can get it at any crafts store in the sewing aisle. it's more work but they will look nicer!

Re: So annoying
Use a really new scissor that is sharp and cut the ribbon on angles. It won't fray that way. :) GL!

Re: So annoying
When I used to dance I had this problem with my pointe shoe ribbons, and found that using clear nail polish on the ends helped them from fraying. Good luck!!

Re: So annoying
You can get some Fray stop from Jo-ann Fabric, or any fabric store. It works wonders!
Or, you can do it the old fashioned way, and seal the ends with fire! Quickly pass a match, or lighter flame over the end. I does the trick every time. Just be careful no to burn the ribbon up!

Re: So annoying
sometimes running the edge of the ribbon that was just cut through a flame seals it and keeps it from fraying.....i used to do with my pointe shoe ribbon....back in the day.... i hope this helps

Re: So annoying
Don't use Fray Check or Fray Stop- my mom is a quilter and uses it, it will make the ribbon all stiff and look like little boogers are stuck to it!
