So does anyone else want to invite themselves to my wedding? (vent)

People never cease to amaze me. Last weekend we ran into a couple we're friendly with at a party - it is the one time a year we see them. Next thing you know the husband asks what time the reception starts b/c he wants to make sure he can get off that day. Ok.............. FH and I let that one slide b/c we don't think it was for an intentional invite - they really think they're invited. Plus they are really nice so I let it go.

However, tonight's episode takes the cake. FH was on the phone getting the couple mentioned above address and I see him writing down 2 addresses. I look over and see that it is one of friend's brothers who is a total loser and drug addict. Apparently he is upset b/c he didn't get an invite to our wedding. Ok, he NEVER speaks to FH and the best part of it is he has been here in our town cleaning out his parents house b/c they are selling it and he still doesn't call.

FH says to send him an invite but I refuse. I'm not paying money to have some person who we never see or talk to attend OUR special day. I am absolutely floored by this behavior. What really gets me is that we don't talk to him and if he got married he wouldn't invite us so where does this guy get the audacity to be mad at us!!!!!

Someone please tell me that I'm right and that I'm not crazy for thinking the way I am right now. Thanks for letting me vent.

You are NOT crazy - if anyone asks you are on a tight budget and don't have time or money to spend on those who aren't close to your heart!

I am on a tight budget - I just can't believe some people. I think his invite is going to magically get 'lost'.................in my trashcan where it belongs

If he doesn't like what is he going to do - not ever talk to us again??????

I'm trying to have a sense of humor about all this - you really do learn a lot about people from wedding planning.

I will...I didn't get my invite, so I just wanted to let you know that I'm coming with my family- all 25 of us. (kidding of corse)

Someone else started a thread about FH's 'friend' who was invited w/o a guest and responded w/ 3 guests.

People just amaze me sometimes.

I have a few of those too. FH just keeps getting addresses from people who have been saying they want to be invited...

well FH could put together and send the invites to these people. People def have nerve.

My MIL had a friend who asked her why her sons and their guests weren't invited. My MIL felt bad and asked me to do so. My now husband didn't even know these guys. So I called her friend and informed her that I would love to invite her family, but we are limited in seating (lied) and if there are some that decline, I would be more than happy to invite them then. She yesed me to death, said she understood and appreciated it. She probably didn't like it and talked about it, but frankly I didn't care. Sufficeit to say, I didn't send them invites.

I think some of these people really have B****!!! Being invited to a wedding is an honor, not something you invite yourself to, like a BBQ!! Most couples these days pay for the wedding themselves & are on a budget. Then those people would be the ones who showed up w/o a gift or card or not at all! This is your day & those who attend should be those who mean the most to you.

I think the response sanmik gave was so great! And budget or not ... I'd never cave to someone who was so pushy as to insist that her kids & their guests be invited. What can someone say to limited seating or budget?! Its perfect. :)

Stand your ground Lori. You do learn a lot about people when you're planning your wedding. Some of it may not be good, but you'll be better off in the long run w/o people like that in your life.

oh how i can emphatize w/ you right now! i'm the one whose post was about FH's sort of friend freaking out about not being invited w/ a guest.

you shouldn't invite any of these people but i do know that it's always an uncomfortable situation.

You are absolutely right!!!!! FH and I feel the same way. We have decided we are not inviting people we see on occassion. So we can give them a party??? If you have to invite yourself, that should tell you something

Oooh I had the same problem but with cousins who I NEVER see or talk too except at funerals.

I spoke to their mother (my aunt) & told her she was invited along w/uncle. Auntie says she may just go to the church & let her daughter go to the reception cuz she REALLY wants to go. I told her I had no idea her daughter had moved back home to live (true) & she wasn't on the list, but the invite was for her & my uncle & those seats had THEIR names on it, nobody else's!

So Auntie tells me 'Well, they're your cousins too - don't see why you can't invite them' whateva man!

So told Auntie that if I got some no's I'd invite them but . . ain't gonna happen in this lifetime.

Are people that desparate for free food/drinks these days???
