So does anyone else want to invite themselves to my wedding? (vent)
Original post by lorimari
People never cease to amaze me. Last weekend we ran into a couple we're friendly with at a party - it is the one time a year we see them. Next thing you know the husband asks what time the reception starts b/c he wants to make sure he can get off that day. Ok.............. FH and I let that one slide b/c we don't think it was for an intentional invite - they really think they're invited. Plus they are really nice so I let it go.
However, tonight's episode takes the cake. FH was on the phone getting the couple mentioned above address and I see him writing down 2 addresses. I look over and see that it is one of friend's brothers who is a total loser and drug addict. Apparently he is upset b/c he didn't get an invite to our wedding. Ok, he NEVER speaks to FH and the best part of it is he has been here in our town cleaning out his parents house b/c they are selling it and he still doesn't call.
FH says to send him an invite but I refuse. I'm not paying money to have some person who we never see or talk to attend OUR special day. I am absolutely floored by this behavior. What really gets me is that we don't talk to him and if he got married he wouldn't invite us so where does this guy get the audacity to be mad at us!!!!!
Someone please tell me that I'm right and that I'm not crazy for thinking the way I am right now. Thanks for letting me vent.

I feel for you!
FH's father expects us to invite his wife's family to our wedding. Let's just say we don't like his wife. She went out of her way to ask us if we were invited to her brother's wedding if we would go, because she knows that FH hates her family, and I had to sit there and convince her that he doesn't hate her family. The only time he really was with them was the weekend of his father's wedding, and he was in a BAD space about it, so he was pretty much keeping to himself. Needless to say, we told her that we would love to come if we were invited (even though we would rather eat our shoes than go), and we never got an invitation. FH's brother got one, but not us!! Yeah, like we're really going to invite her family. I'm just waiting for FH to grow the cajones to tell his father. I am NOT paying for strangers that are related to someone who we are inviting only because we have to.

Yup, chutzpah is definitely the best word for these people...I have friends of friends and acquaintances who I see at social gatherings who have said, 'when's the date, again, I want to make sure I put it on my calendar,' or 'I already have your gift!' I never know exactly what to say to these people. But it's your wedding, and you should have the people you love and WANT there, not everyone who happens to want to come.

I know how you feel. Some of my co-workers are assuming that they will be invited. One asked if it was a Saturday or Sunday and said 'oh good, because my hubby works on Sundays'! I thought it was odd considering if i left the job tomorrow, i would never see this woman again.' Another said 'oh i am really looking forward to coming to your wedding.' If I was a millionaire, I wouldn't care if the whole world came but come on now! I am inviting my c0-workers that I have a relationship with outside of work because I consider them my real friends. I just can't believe that people have such nerve!!!!!!

My favorite invite story....Fi's uncle is legally disabled, in his 50s. He lives with his mom, fi's grandma. He has a girlfriend who I've never met who doesn't live with him. Getting the picture? OK, I send the invite to 'Uncle Joe and Barbara'. Grandma gets all upset and says 'no Barbara needs to get a separate invite'. I say OK, I don't care it's the same amount of people, I'll send her one of her own, get me her address.' Although I know what I did the first time around is the correct way, I love his grandma and I want to make her happy. Fi's mom gets involved, calls grandma, tells her that's not correct, I did it right the first time, if Barbara gets her own invite it implies that she should give her own gift and she doesn't even know us, blah blah blah. The next day we get the response back from Uncle Joe...Not coming anyway! Because he had a fight with one of fi's aunts and doesn't want to be in the same room as her. Drama over nothing!

Lori, Since we share a name, I naturally thought Tommybride and I WERE invited!! Does this mean that we're not?
