Didnt FH know he was dead? I think it's unfortunate but I don't think it's all the IL's fault since he's related to them. I'd send a note from the 2 of you apologizing.
FH has never seen the guest list. His parents gave it to me....I entered the information into my spreadsheet and addressed the envelopes.
Oh ok then hes in the clear. Problem is no one knows that. Just send a short note explaining. Seriously sorry that happened. Id be mortified too

Absolutely, you need to call or send a note. Blame it on your invitation lady. Tell her an old christmas card list was given over and you asked the invitation lady to change it, but clearly she hadnt. I am so sorry that happened.

Totally not your fault, as FIL's about it, and hand write a note expressing an apology and your sympathy.
