I can't help you on the demo lesson, but CONGRATULATIONS on it and good luck!
My cousin too is trying to find a teaching job for next year. While she's waiting, she actually got a job at a Tutor Time--something like that might be an option too.

I have a tip.......**if you are doing Grade 7-12**
The very first 3 minutes of the class....pass out pre-folded white construction paper and markers to each student and have the students write their names on them. After they put their names on the paper, have them display it on their desks.....it makes it so much easier when you are calling on them-this way you dont sound silly when you dont know the student's name!

Re: SO EXCITED!!!
I thought of another one! Don't say, 'Come on guys' or 'Let's go guys!' Instead, use 'Ladies and Gentleman'

Re: SO EXCITED!!!
I would do the construction paper name tags regardless of the grade.
Also, have EXTRA things to do- just incase you have extra time- and make sure you are aware of the time. It is very important to include CLOSURE in your lesson.
GOOD LUCK!
I teach 6th, so if it is a 6th class and I can be of more assistance.... do not hesitate to ask.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!
One tip: definitely overplan your lesson. The worst demo lessons are the ones that end early and the teacher has no idea what to do with the kids for the last few minutes of class. Also, make sure that you wrap up the lesson in the end...this can be as easy as asking a few students to summarize or explain one thing that they learned/found useful in your lesson. What grade is the demo for? What area? I teach seventh grade...FM me if you have anymore questions. Good luck!

Re: SO EXCITED!!!
I would definitely do something with cooperative grouping and post the objectives for your lesson somewhere in writing so that the students know what is expected of them. Is it a particular subject area or an elementary classroom? I have had some really good observations in the past and can share ideas and strategies for elementary and ESL. Good luck. FM me if you need some ideas.

You can even buy this pre-folded paper at staples!

Re: SO EXCITED!!!
Sorry hun, cant give advice here...after so many demo lessons, I became pretty negative.. I've accepted the fact i'll be a NYC teacher for a very long time
I just couldnt do a full time sub job.. or leave replacement for a year or two ...
Are you a sub at that school already???
well my advice is, to not listen to pessimistic teachers like me!!! Do your best, be confident you will get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (especially if your not elementary)
