So far, the BEST StepMother Moment..........

Me, DH and my stepson were at dinner (at Friendly's) and we were just chatting, et.....

And I was saying to Ashton, 'well, you know you can call me whatever you want. You can call me Liz, or you can even call me Stepmom, or Stepmom Liz, or whatever.....'
Then DH pipes in and says 'yeah Ashton, whatever you feel most comfortable with'

Then Ashton says,
Can I call you 'MOM' ?
I was so happy I squealed, 'Of course you can, that's the BEST one'
And he was happy, and so were DH and I. I am STILL smiling

Awww that brought a tear to my eye! What a wonderful feeling and that just proves what an awesome mom you have been to him!

Liz, I am tearing up just reading your post...I is so amazing that Len's son feels so much love from you that he wants to call you Mom...that is THE sweetest thing, and I can just imagine how your heart must have lept (sp?) for joy when he asked you that!

As a stepdaughter, I have often thought about calling my stepdad just 'Dad' since he's so important to me and my biological father has been non-existent in my life for the last few years. But, I also like how my stepdad's name is similar to 'Dad' in that it is just three letters too, so I stick with that!

AWE, How precious !!! I just got the chills.
Your DH raised a fine little young man! and you are going to take on the partnership of the leading roles in raising him into a fine MAN (who wants to think of them growing up so fast??) But he sure does sound like a precious gem of a boy, and IM sure you and DH are a precious gem of a set of parents.

Now the question is how do you introduce him to others. I read somewhere that if you are trying to build a better relationship, always introduce them as your son/daughter, step seem so impersonal. I love the relationship you have with Ashton. Kids always know genuine people. You go Mom

Thank you ladies

I am still on a high

I usually introduce him as 'our son', sometimes 'my son' and then sometimes 'my stepson'
Don't know why so many terms, I think I'm just getting used to the whole thing. From now on, I will definitely leave out the 'step'

Shamma, Ashton and I are going shopping to buy myself a dress for this Indian wedding I'm in (Can you believe he wants to go with me, LOL) Len is going to stay home and sleep.

When we get back we're going to Church. If there's time in between I'll post the pics, if not, I'll post them after Church

Wow, that was a wonderful moment! You must be so happy/proud to have such a special boy in your life.

This reminds me of a card that my friend's stepdad gave her before her wedding...it made such an impact on me that I remember it word for word!

I think this was written by an adoptive parent, but fits for a step...
