Me, DH and my stepson were at dinner (at Friendly's) and we were just chatting, et.....

And I was saying to Ashton, 'well, you know you can call me whatever you want. You can call me Liz, or you can even call me Stepmom, or Stepmom Liz, or whatever.....'
Then DH pipes in and says 'yeah Ashton, whatever you feel most comfortable with'

Then Ashton says,
Can I call you 'MOM' ?
I was so happy I squealed, 'Of course you can, that's the BEST one'
And he was happy, and so were DH and I. I am STILL smiling

I do think now it is time to take out the 'step'

As 2 women that have lost our own mothers, I know you'll be the greatest one possible to Ashton and any other children you might have down the road!

Calling someone mom is one of the best compliments that you can give a person. You are soooooo special and he is a special child and very lucky to have you (and Len)!!

Liz, I just got a step-daughter when I got married and she did the same thing actually she was calling me mom after we got engaged. Her mom called me up screaming that she calls me mom and I said listen 'you should feel good that she calls me mom, it means I take care of her like a mom should and not no wicked step-mother! After some yelling and crying on her part she finally understand that it is a good thing. I can understand why she was upset though. How old is your step-son? She is 12. She just stared giving me hugs and kisses and that feels great! Congrats on your new name .

Nothing makes me happier than hearing how happy it makes you to be this little boy's mommy. It's such a wonderful thing to imagine how much love he has coming in from all ends. These situations so often are hard for the little ones...and this just gives me hope.

You are doing such a great job. You are an inspiration!
