whats with guys always wanting to own stuff?!
I think it depends on how much and whether you think its a timeless style that could be worn again

wouldnt it be weird that he will wear it to someone else's wedding first?

If you think about it, with a rented tux, someone else has already worn it... and someone else will wear it again... i don't think it's that weird... It's not like it has to be 'the tux' (the way ours is 'the dress!)

FH bought his during a Black Friday sale. Got it waaaay discounted. I think it was the same price as renting one.

We have a red carpet event coming up this June and he's gonna wear it to that first. I've seen it already so might as well get the most use out of it!

I made FH buy his.... have him get something classic and he'll keep it for a long time. IMO the tux FH bought is a lot nicer than anything he would rent and even though it was pricey we'll have other weddings and formal events that he can wear it to. and when he's a GM in other weddings he won't have to rent.

FH would love any excuse to buy clothing.

FH bought his tux. He was due for a new one anyway and what better reason to get a replacement? Our situation is different though, he wears his a couple times a year (and already owns one) so renting one is just silly. Now if he were someone who would never wear it again, that's a different story. . . Then again, when are you planing to wear your gown again? At least the tux *might* get used again. I guess it really depends where your funds are now. I would say it's a splurge if he doesn't usually wear tux's. I can see both sides, it's a tough decision. Is it really important to him? Can you swing the extra money right now?

Also, I wouldn't wear it to the other wedding first, I think that would really take away from it.

Also, he could still rent the other items from the place where the guys are getting their tux's. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd even throw it in free since often the groom's tux is free or reduced. I would def call them and ask about him renting a shirt, vest, tie, shoes, etc. No need to buy that stuff (unless you want to), when will he wear a white vest and tie again?
