In some ways, I can understand. Different situations require different rates IMO. For instance, a friend of mine is a photographer and giving me a great rate - whereas she would charge more for someone else. You just never know.

The only thing most venders want you to do and give them free advertisement in the form of great feedback. ...I just wanted to add that I had some venders for my wedding who were fabulous and I have absolutely no problem referring them.

Re: So Get this....
I completely understand if they want to charge different prices to other people...but the posting was basically to help us find vendors in our price range...I'm sure no one assumed that they were EXACT numbers.
But, whatever...people complain about everything, can't make everyone happy 100% of the time right?

I kind of knew this would cause problems. For a number of reasons...One prices are subject to change. Maybe the quotes we're posting were fform earleir. Also differnt situations are different, different times of year. And it's also sort of unfair to vendors, because ordinarily if you go to visit a vendor they get a chance to sell themselves to you and tell you what you're getting for the price before you get the price, so there's not as much sticker shock. Also, people could make a mistake when posting, and put compeltely wrong prices which might detract custmers.
However I think your idea was great, trying to help everyone out, and they can't stop us from FMing stuff to each other.
i think the real problem comes though when people go to vendors and say 'well you gave somsone on LIW THIS price' cause that gets us all in trouble....DON'T SAY THAT.
I mean if anything you can say 'I heard that some catering halls will throw in the chocolate fountrain for free' or :I was tlaking to a friend of a friend and she said she got the choco fountain for free' don't mention LIW..
There are always the vendors who read the rbide baords which annoys the heck out of me and you can't stop that..but..anyway..
Anyway i'm glad to share any vendor info I have, but over FM.

I understand where they are coming from. Lots of Vendors don't give quotes over the phone. A lot of it has to do with time of year day date season a lot changes things go up things go down. If I told you what I paid last year you can go there and want that price and if they say no then you might not book them.

Re: So Get this....
Also, I wanted to add, we can probbaly get away with posting a price range. Like, Suc and such phoography runs from $2500 for a basic package to $5000 for all the bells and whistles..I don't think that would cause a problem, and we'd still know if it's in the price range.
I don't have a ton of vendor info, but I'll always answer questions, and I'm vry candid about the things I did and did not like about vendors.

I understand where they are coming from....they pay for this service and if they wanted to list prices on their sites they would. They dont need people posting incorrect prices and detering business. Its best to visit someone in person and negotiate that way. Every situation is different.

I agree with everything you said, except for one thing, which is that VENDORS WANT TO SELL THEMSELVES. I believe (IMO) that a vendor shouldn't have to sell themselves...their work should account for everything, and for people like me...I do not deal with a vendor that is in my face saying 'isn't this gorgeous?' I would reply, with 'Hey, I'm here b/c I was referred to you b/c of someone or b/c of your prices suiting my budget, I know your work, I like your work...so stop asking me if I think it's beautiful.' I'm already in the door if I'm asking!
But whatever...that's my perspective....

Re: So Get this....
Something similar happened to me once, and I was scared they were looking at my posts, I changed my name on liweddings and only give out things thru FM mail. I was so freaked I was being tracked down. I just posted about this in NWR ' do you think you give out too much info online.' I was so angry and annoyed , but remember this is a public forum. Hang in there.

THANK YOU! I'M TRYING. I work in Finance, and I guess I look at this just like I do at work - it's a Public Forum, most of the vendors put up their prices and packages on their website, so what's the big deal. It was merely offering brides options to those NOT listed on the boards...
I think it's all a conspiracy! LOL....Vendors listed on here, do pay to be on, and are probably sensitive about their prices, which is FAIR, but, for me....I look at PRICE then look at SERVICE b/c I have such a strict budget.

I've heard this many times before on this site, I can't say I'm surprised. They also take down bad reviews... Thats one clue to bad vendors - you'll get tons of results when you search for good vendors reviews and few on bad ones (b/c they've been removed!).

I'm pretty sure it ould eventually get taken down at theknot as well.
Also about vndros selling themselves, it's not about a sales pitch, it's about seeing the work. For example if a photogrtpaher is sort of pn the expensive side and you post prices here, so many brides will not even go into the studio to even SEE the work ot know if it's worth the $$ or not. Also, if I quote prices and they're all high, it could be ebcause when i went to the DJ I said I defintie;y want a full light show. So it can be miseleading, and it can keep brides form even LOOKING at vendor they think are out of the price range.
Don't forget that the owners of this site and any other wedding site get thier $$ from the advertisers Sure if not for us there would be no site, but like any business, they have to keep their advertisers happy.

Re: So Get this....
JUST A CLARIFICATION....For those who didn't see the posting....People (including myself) who were posting information were giving specifics, such as, I'm getting XXX in this package...so it wasn't 'unique' based on packages...it was morever of 'GENERALIZATION.'

Re: So Get this....
yeah but you know how you get those 'package sheets' they may have 10 different versions of that base don the time of eyar you're getting marired or other factors, so it may not be that general. I'd love for there to be set prices and 100% transparency, but there just isn't.

Re: So Get this....
I kinda am siding with the vendors on this one. I understand you were trying to do a good service to help out other brides, however, not everyone shops around the way you do and puts price before service. Working for a company where service is a major factor in price, I could totally understand their reasoning for not wanting that type of information posted. If a price is too high, it definitely would steer certain individuals away without them even giving the company a chance to explain the reasoning for the price. All services are definitely not the same.
I totally agree that giving a price range could help, but this doesnt only hurt the vendors but it could also cause hard feelings among other brides. It has already been mentioned that there have been past brides that were charged more than others for similar services by the same vendor. How would you feel if you found out that a vendor you already had a contract with gave someone else a much lower price?? Im sure not so good. I often think its better not knowing.
