I only went to one place and I really loved the photos. I really wanted to see someone who has been to my RH so I can see the work they did there. I also looked at packages from different photographers and felt I got the most for my money.

I also asked if I got all my proofs I think thats very important. I also asked about getting the copyright to all the photos so I can make my own copies if I wanted to.

the books that you're talking about are called different things by each photographer. I've heard them being called design books or magazine style books.

You should look for a photographer whose style you like and then give them a call to see if they have ur date. Finally meet with them and compare prices and packages.

Re: so here come the questions lol-photo ?

i am OOT so i did a lot of research on here looking at peoples proofs. I didnt like looking at photographer websites because they pick and choose a handful of nice pix and everyone has nice pictures to choose from. I wanted someone who took proofs that I liked and not just 1-2 nice pictures per event.

I also wanted to make sure I would be guaranteed a particular photographer, and I wanted to know that the photographer I liked actually took the pictures I liked!

Style also differs a lot so look at their pictures -- ex: Angelica Glass, Imagine Studios and Thomas Paul have very different styles. See which you prefer

You might want to consider whether the photographer has been to your hall before and is familiar with it -- they will know some creative pictures to take because they have seen what comes out good (and will make sure to include them w/ less time spent).

Finally, you want someone you think you will be able to get along with easily. I heard amazing things about one photographer, but read that he barely speaks English although the brides mentioned it didn't matter and they still got great pictures. I preferred someone I'd be able to talk to and who would understand my requests.

I ended up loving Imagine Studios... check out the proofs for MissingTheBGene and when I met with Lia I booked on the spot. She works for herself so I knew she took every picture I liked, I was guaranteed to get her, she had lots of experience at my hall, and she was a sweetheart. I can't wait to work with her. Everyone has their own preferences though so look around!

Besides style - which is a personal choice, things that were important to me were:

1. That the proofs were mine. I find something fundamentally wrong with paying thousands of dollars and then the pictures being watermarked!

2. That I actually liked the person! You have to spend an entire day with them, I didn't want someone I didn't like, ya know?

A few more:

- see whether the proofs will be framing-quality or if they will have the photographers name on them

- see if you are limited to or charged extra for special pix (like black/white with colored flowers) etc if you like those kinds of pictures

- see what is included in the packages

I agree with alot of what she said. You have to decide what style you like best (traditional posed shots, photojournalistic, candid, etc) and then find photogs who fit that style.
I would also recommend looking at photogs outside of vendors on here, because a lot of times you can find great photograhers who are a bit cheaper because they aren't as hyped up.
If you decide you like photojournalistic style photos (which is what I liked) check out this website-Wedding Photojournalistic Association I found a lot of photogs through here that I wound up looking at.

If it comes down to $ look at the packages very carefully.

Like for me, one package seemed a lot cheaper but then I realized I would have to add on extra hours, albums, etc so the more expensive package actually worked out to be a good deal.

You can also negotiate. We got extra pictures thrown in for our album, nixed the thank you cards (I didn't really like them) and the engagement pix (we are OOT most of the time, they would have been too much of a hassle to do in NY) and then got WAY more pictures thrown in and some other things we wanted.

def compare packages to see what you're getting for your money. also make sure you see at least one full set of proofs. we loved blue daisy because we were able to look at entire galleries of former clients, so we felt we had a clear idea of what we were getting. another photog showed us beautiful albums and a stellar portfolio, but when i saw a full set of proofs, i was really underwhelmed.

For me, an all inclusive type package was important. Maybe it's because I'm a math idiot but I didnt want to have to add up album costs, photographer costs for the day of, how much it costs to get all of my proofs, etc... I like one price that includes everything I want, which is what I got.

Good luck Colleen! You're going to be a busy little bee now!

Awesome!! she was really sweet. She was also easy to get in touch with (I called her before ordering our tissue taffeta BM dresses to make sure they looked good in photos and she said not to worry, they photograph just fine)
