And the FINALLY told me when it would be in- end of Jan/beginning of Feb! Finally I have an actual time frame!!
Now here's a question: I am considering getting my dress altered elsewhere. Is this a good idea? The store is a good 40 minutes from where I live, and if they don't do alterations on the weekends, I definitely can't. I have some names of good seamstresses, but am nervous. How do I break the news to the store that I am not going to get the dress altered there?

Just tell them you are not getting the alterations done there, and ask them to deduct the alterations cost from your final payment. If they ask any questions, just say the store is not convenient for you to get to for alterations.
At least this is what I told my dress shop, and they didn't give me any problems about it. Be prepared to sign a waiver stating you inspected your dress, and that it is in pristine condition since you are not getting alterations done there.
