which I'm happy about dont get me wrong lol. I HATE surprises more than anything. Basically my mom and sister sent out my invites with every intension of it being a surprise...but didnt write that it was a surprise on the invites. I got a gift yesterday from someone out of town that cannot attend saying....'I cant make your shower on the ___ date'. I told my mom and she was livid. I mean I feel bad because I know my mom was trying to make it a surprise but I kinda dont think it was this persons fault. I mean should people just assume it was a surprise w/o saying it on the invite?

Re: So I found out when my shower is....
This is a great thread.
Im Jewish. Generally we dont do surprise party's for showers. I dont know why, we just dont.
So when I got an invite for a girlfriends wedding shower I said something to her. The invite did NOT say it was a surprise.
Well. It was a surprise. I covered it since we had another things going on around that time.
But I never thoguht something was a surprise if it didnt SAY surprise, so your mom sould not be too upset. But I am so sorry she is!
Going forward I will ALWAYS assume a shower is a surprise unless otherwise specifically told. But the only reason I think like this now is because, I guess, if its a shower its implied its a surprise.
But I would think that the invite should SAY surprise right??
Again, sorry the cat is out of the bag and your mom is upset.

I dont know what the etiquette is about this or not.. but my mom didnt trust anyone and wrote surprise shower on the invite lol ... although I probably wouldnt have told her that the person told me the date... I figured out when my shower was too and they tried so hard to make it a surprise.. so I acted surprised but I really knew lol
