So I had a good cry yesterday....

and although I feel a *little* better, I'm still terribly lonely and homesick

I've been telling DH I have been *melancholy* for about a week or so ...

I cried this morning in the car listening to 9-11 tributes

Have you met any people yet? What about the church you were getting your pictures taken for? Any people there you can socialize with?

What about doing some fun adult ed class?

We haven't met anyone from the church yet in our own age group...the pastor invited us to join a young adult bible study....

don't really have $$ for adult ed classes, we are trying to save $$ for a house in a year, a baby, and DH going back to school

Just something to think about ... I took 10 weeks of golf lessons at the Elementary school and it was only like $45 ... just figure something to get you out and distracted from being homesick & lonely ...

yea...maybe.....

maybe a cooking class or something.....

my SIL just called....my nephew *needed* to talk to me (he's almost 3 years old)...she said he was screaming my name for like 10 minutes....

that's the stuff that makes ya feel good

see what the local adult ed classes have to offer. maybe some are cheap/free.

are you working? ask a co-worker to go to happy hour or something similar.

volunteering somewhere? although might not meet someoe in your age group but at least it will distract you from homesickness.

Maybe.....we should take a darn road trip down to see you!! Some LIW fun will help you I am sure.

Shana, it is so nice for the two of you. Literally, down in GA all you guys have is eachother. I know it doesn't sound nice but it will get better!!!! How does he feel?

Richie loves it down here...loves being on his own and I do too...but it's hard for me not having MY friends....and I don't really want new ones....I want the ones that I worked so hard to make.

I am not a super out there person, not outgoing, very shy when it comes to the unknown and unfamiliar situations

Aww Shana ... I feel for you sweetie I'm glad you cried it out, sometimes that truly DOES help a bit

I am sure the adjustment will get easier in time, but I can totally relate to you feeling so homesick. My fear of change and being lonely is the biggest thing holding me back from picking up and leaving NY (which DH and I want to do..) So I truly admire you for actually DOING it!!

You are a strong lady, you have a great personality , and you have a wonderful DH to support you ... your social life will expand in due course and GA will feel more like 'home' before long

If I had the vacation time I'd plan a road trip to visit for sure!

Shana, I know how you feel. 5 yrs ago, I moved to Chicago for a job after undergrad graduation. It was really hard bc I had no friends or family here. There were many nights, I cried and just wanted to go back to NY. It helped to call home or talk to friends. I will tell you with time it gets better.

What about where you work? Anyone in your age group at your job?

The workplace is always the best way to get some new quick friends after you relocate.

sorry to hear you were down, but I know exactly how you feel!! I'm the same way with friends, it's taken me my whole life to form the friendships I currently have, and I can't just walk up to people and be like 'hi, I just moved here, want to be my friend?' even though sometimes I just really wish I had some friends out here on LI. I've been living here for about 4 years now, and the only people I have closeby are my sister (thank GOD - she moved out here 2 years ago!) and my in laws. All my girlfriends are back in NJ. Even ahving DH and my sis here, It's pretty lonely sometimes, and I'm not the type to make new friends easily either, so I feel like I know where you're coming from. I don't know if it helps, but since you have a dog, have you looked around your area for dog-friendly parks? I might just be a huge geek, but when we get our dog, I'm really looking forward to meeting other dog owners at the parks around us! I think I'll be less shy if the dogs are there to kind of open up conversation and all - I'm kinda hoping I'll meet some more people out here and form some friendships that way :) Too bad you don't live on LI anymore, we could have set up Rottie play dates! Well, I hope you're feeling better after you cry - you know you always have us here on LIW no matter where you are!

Do people need to be in the same age-group to be friends?
