So I just got off the phone with the Legislators Office....

I called Dave Mejias' office in regards to strengthening requirements before operating a Motorcycle/Ninja Bike and tightening up penalties for riders who feel the need to drive wrecklessly in honor of my cousin Lisa. As you know, she was buried the day of my wedding after being killed needlessly in a Ninja Bike accident. When I was at the wake, I found out that she had text messaged one of her friends about how scared she was because her BF was driving like a jerk and she couldn't wait to get back to her car (it was her first time on a bike)....needless to say, she was killed moments later as the driver hit a car while he (her BF) was driving at speeds in excess of 100mph.

Now, just the other day i was on my way to work on Northern State and was cut off my 3 people on ninja bikes.....about 15 mins later, i was in bumper to bumper traffic and 4 more ninja bikes were cutting between lanes and cars to bypass the traffic while everyone else just sat around because hey....traffic is traffic.....

Anyway, I made my decision after seeing these idiots swerving in and out and between cars, that I was going to try my best to get something rolling to make it harder for people to get away with this. With the summer quickly approaching, I hope that any of you who own a bike, or if your FH owns a bike, that you take extra caution when you are out on the road. As much as you see these articles in the paper every single day over the warm weather months, there are even more that aren't put into the paper.

I got the ball rolling this morning thanks to someone named Brendan in the Legislator's office, so hopefully something good can come of this.

I think it's great that you are doing this.

I really hate ninja bikes and the swereving the rideres do in and out of traffic and how fast they go on residential streets.

Please let me know if you need me to sign a petition or anything.

You've got my support!

They fly up and down the highway, in and out of traffic, popping wheelies and cruising away at 100 mph on one fecking wheel! I've even seen them pop wheelies and rest the front tire on a (moving!) Suffolk bus! And then the next day you read about some idiot wrapping himself around a pole and how 'he was just getting his life back together' and 'that bike was his whole life - he would come home from work every day and just polish it and work on it' blah blah blah. I really wish I knew what made these people thing they're so invincible. And on top of it they make it worse for careful, courteous motorcyclists because no one has respect for any of them.

I tried contacting DMV and researching if you are already required to take a class, but so far it looks like all you need is a special license and to take a written test. wtef?? to ride a jet ski you are required to take a safety course with an exam at the end......i've never felt so passionate about anything in my life....I really hope something comes of this. Maybe it's the nurse in me, but i've seen so many people get seriously injured or killed bc of these stupid things.

FH took a class..it was 2 days...if i remember...it was one day of lecture and the next day they rode around in farmingdale parking lot on a motorcycle...then took a test....but SOOOOO many people get motorcycles without even having a license!..They drive around with a permit!!!THEY SHOULDNT SELL PEOPLE MOTORCYLES WITHOUT HAVING A MOTORCYCLE LICENSE!!!!!

I am so sorry for your loss!! And I really hope all goes well with your trying to do the right thing !! ITA with you and especially when I have my kids in the car and they are doing wheely's next to me it scares the crapp out of me !

I just happened to see this and I'm so sorry for your loss. I, too applaud your efforts and think you're doing a great thing. I was in traffic on my way home from work yesterday and two guys on bikes like this went in between all the cars, so stupid and dangerous for everyone, but especially the guys on the bikes

Now that being said, does anyone else think that the little matchy-matchy outfits that some of these guys wear while riding their bikes are really LAME?! You know, the neon green or bright purple head-to-toe look..wow, what a tough biker look

Good for you I hate ninja bikes. They always scare me in traffic when they weave in and out. It is like they think that they can never get hit while doing that.

i hate the punks on those bikes that weave in and out of traffic and cut everyone off as they fly by!!!
i grew up riding my dads motorcycle, upstate new york, just cruising around on a beautiful day, he would never even dream about riding like they do!!!

good for you girl! i am behind you 100% I had a good guy friend die in a motorcycle accident as well so I understand how you feel

Don't get me wrong, I love riding on FH's sportbike. But he's responsible on his. These young kids think they are untouchable and nothing will happen to them. It's unfortunate that it usually takes a horrific accident like this to make people realize that it could happen to them. Good luck with everything you're trying to do!

Awww what a touching story. what you are doing will surely make a lot of people happy, I got cornered on the GCP about a few months ago by 6 of them.. They came all around my car and would not let me out!!!!! If you need any signatures please let us know! I hate them and they are wreckless and dangerous! Howver the cops are never in the right place when this happens. I saw a cop car parked right off to the right on the entrance to the GCP from the Northern and after beeping several times I later found out it was only there to deter people from speeding.. YEah that really worked!
