So, I rarely post on BHB, but I have a question re: keeping the FG busy at Donna's Shower

At a Shower for Donna's FSIL, last year, a little girl started opening the Bride's gifts, and even spilled ice tea on the gift Donna and her other FSIL, took!! This was all very annoying to the Bride, Donna, and the the other FSIL, but none said anything. I don't want a repeat at Donna's Shower. Name some ways to keep the little FG busy. Thanks!!! Mary MOB

Are you having bridal bingo? If so, or any other games for that matter, maybe have her hand stuff out so she feels important?? How old is she?

Lisa, I think she's about 6/7. I haven't begun planning the games yet. Thanks for your suggestion!!! Mary MOB

Thanks!!!!! I'll have to check with Josh's Mom on what she likes these days. At Donna's Fall e-party, Josh's Mom, a teacher, set up a table for the FG. her Brother, and my Grandson, to decorate pumpkins, which kept them busy!!!! Mary MOB

We had out flower girls make pictures for Donna (that's my sister too). They also decorated a pretend present for her. During the gift opening they sat with one of the BMs and made the hat with the ribbons.

Another good suggestion is to not allow kids who you know will not behave, even if they are flowergirls or ring bearers.

Thanks!! Oooo, I could seat her with one of the BM. I did think about allowing her to make the ribbon hat. I like the present idea. Mary MOB

Can you arrange to have the FG's usual baby sitter there?

My younger sister got married this past Saturday and our 5 and 6 year old nephews were ring bearers. We had their usual baby sitter at the reception to keep them occupied. It worked out really well. The parents were able to enjoy the reception and nobody had to worry about the kids getting bored and getting themselves into trouble.

Maybe show her favorite DVD, give her art projects that is related to weddings, have her help when it comes time to opening presents?

Is she going to be the only young one there? I had 5 little girls and they kept each other busy. My MOH got them coloring books and crayons, and I think stickers. She also gave them little goodie bags w/nail polish and lip gloss that they occupied themselves with too! As for gift opening, I had them hand me the little gifts so they felt a part of it. But by the end they had no interest and were playing at their table!
Good luck!

Hi, Tassamai!!!! Thanks for your suggestions!!!!! I like the art projects one!!!! The room I'm renting is small, with no DVD accommodations. Mary MOB

Hi, Jen!!!! I think she will be the only child there and will be included because she is the FG, and her Mom is invited as well. As the rented room is small, with about 25-30 guests invited, it will take some thought, on the particular area for her to be preoccupied with. Donna and I both love children, but as I mentioned in my OP, things got a little crazy at last year's shower, the running around and spilling ice tea on a gift, frustrated the Bride to be and some guests. Mary MOB

PS Appreciate your suggestions as well!!!! Thanks!!!!!

Mary, at my shower my 6 year old niece was so excited that she pulled up a chair and sat next to me. I gave her the 'job' of helping me open the presents once the girls gave them to me, and then she had to hand over the ribbons to the girl that was making the ribbon bo-k.
Needless to say, she didn't miss one scrap of ribbon because it was her 'job'
Susi.
