So if anyones bored and wants to help me and talk about Italy..
Im going to start doing some research on trip advisor but if anyone has recommendations of hotels in Venice that are reasonably priced, lets say under 250 per night and at least 3 starts, Id really appreciate it. I would really prefer something on the canal, Im not sure if I want to compromise on that or not
TIA!
ETA- And anyone who wants to list their favorite restaurants and things to see or do in Venice, please feel welcome to do so

Venice is amazing! I went in 2003 during when i studied aboard we went during carnival. we stayed in Mestre the land next to Venice attached to Italy the hotel was cheesy called Hotel Garibaldi. but I learned my lesson and from now on i used biddingtravel.com. it is a site that chats about what they won on priceline. In Venice the top one is the Hotel 5* Hilton Molino Stuckey link
My biggest advice in Italy is ALWAYS ask how much is it to sit at caffe' and have coffee. When you sit down esp in Venice they charge like triple the price!!! if you have it at the bar it is not so much money and really do get the true Italian feel.
Also in Venice they charge you a service fee(kind of like a tip found out before how much it is)
Def go to Burano, it is nicer than Murano and you have that old world charm of Italy. Also take a trip to Mestre , that is where all the locals mainly live and great shopping.
Food: stay away from any food places near and around Piazza San Marco all tourist trap in which they charge an arm and leg for crappy service.
Great places to eat: Trattoria da Chinellato calle degli Albanesi Il Brek la vedova Befed Brew Pub has great polenta Murano eat at Mora Zebù eat when you are in Jesolo

FH and I had a room overlooking the canal at the Saturnia. Every so often a singing gondolier (sp?) would pass by, which was a nice treat.

I am looking at these hotels in Venice, they may be too high for your price point but maybe on off nights? IE Tues/Wed
The Londra Palace is $571 per night, the Savoia and Jolanda $408.
The one I looooooooove is STARHOTEL SPLENDID

also what we did which I will def do with my Fh when we go back is to share a gondola ride with another random couple.
You can put up to 6 people in one and they dont mind, that way it is much cheaper. One ride for two people cost like $200 for about 40 min. Also try to get them not from Piazza San Marco but from little side streets in which they are much cheaper and will def work on the price and time.
I think this was def worth it and really suggest doing it.
