so in the spirit of getting to know each other better

been wanting to ask this question for a while now:
how do u feel u changed after getting engaged? how ur single self is different from engaged self?

I am very different. I used to be very indepandant, and did everything on my own: movies/concerts/shopping/planning. now I need FH for everything! I didnt even go to my fav singer's concert cause FH couldnt come and it didnt seem to me much without him.
I am also very into dresses and skirts now , before I didnt like any of that. I wear only jeans or black pants. now I enjoy cute dresses.
I read bridal magazines never was into that 'girly' stuff. a childhood friend of mine was so shocked about this fact.
very sensitive. I was hard as rock, nothing made me move to tears (other than the Notebook ), now I see a cute commercial and get teary, or just thinking about FH saying he loves me, makes me want to cry from happiness.
I am very touchy feely now. I didnt like touching and hugging too much, now thats all me and FH do. plus we have this 'cute talk', that would've made me vomit when I was single and saw other couples do it.

there are many more, but these are the main ones

how about u girls?

i think its a combination of getting older and being engaged but i think fh and i have both changed in that we have calmed down and matured since being engaged.

we both were big partiers in college and even in the past few years since we left college...A lot of our friends are still in that getting wasted all the time mindset, but we have slowed down with that alot. Its still fun to go all oout once in awhile but i def can't drink several times a week like i used to!!

No different. FH and I have been together for 9 1/2 years. When we got engaged, nothing really changed We depend on each other for a lot, but we still have our own lives. We have our jobs, families, our separate friends, and our mutual friends. It's works great for us because we can be independent yet still great together.

ETA: but we don't fight as much now.....for about 2 years all we fought about was getting married....I wanted to, he wasn't ready, blah blah blah. I don't have any grounds anymore!

I don't think I'm any different than I was before - we were already living together for a few years before the engagement. If any thing I'd say I'm slightly more stressed out with everything that we need to get done...

Not really. I do the same things, I think I'm pretty much the same, just as laid back as always. Except now I get to talk about wedding things.

I think I'm more relaxed in general.

Omg, now I notice everything that is wedding related, before it didn't matter to me at all but now it's my world.

Now, I'm very strict with my budgeting. I don't buy lunch as much as I used to and I hardly ever go shopping. I don't even want to walk around stores looking for something to buy.

Now, anything that I'm shopping for is for the wedding.

I was searching for songs to play for the reception and I got teary eyed just thinking about us dancing to the songs.

I have noticed that my conversations with FH are almost all wedding related.

I dont think its different than it was before. We have always been a 'married' couple so this is all just normal for us...

this is very interesting. girls who have been in relationships longer and grew up/matured with their FH's are pretty much the same. I on the other hand who was never in a relationship feel (FH is my 1st bf), as I said, very different. I guess the relationship changed me.

Nothing drastic....I do feel like I'm getting older bc we own a home together and have been together for almost 5 years.

my tolerance has gone down the toilet since i've started dating my FH

whenever i meet up with my old roommates i'm the lightweight now.

Re: so in the spirit of getting to know each other better

We've been together for almost 5 years now, and I think that since we've been together since I was 23 and he was 25, we just kind of naturally evolved into more civilized adults throughout the years. When we first started dating, we were all about blazing through all the bars in Alphabet City...now we're old farts and prefer the neighborhood bar!

I think the only thing that changed with me since we got engaged is this sudden interest in weddings. I was totally clueless about them before we got engaged!

eta: FH and I don't live together and won't until we've tied the knot, so we're compromising on the kind of decor the house will have. My taste is super Andy Warhol; he likes dark wood furniture. Oy vey! So that's another thing that will change...my inability to have everything in bright colors like my apartment currently is!

I'm not different...I am just looking at wedding stuff now which I didn't do before. hahaa... umm.... I have always been a little emotional when I think of weddings because of all that the celebration symbolizes and I cried at both my sisters weddings so the emotional side of me is the same.

The only way I'm different is not I'm wedding obsessed! Oh wait, I always was... Let me rephrase that: Now I can talk about being wedding obsessed! LOL
But I've known my FH since HS and we've been homeowners together for a year now so...

I don't feel different at all, just that I have an e-ring on my left hand. But I am that same person, just very happy that I am planning our wedding. And I am a little obsessed with our wedding. lol I guess its normal.
I guess I feel the same because FH and I have been together since forever, we are going on 8yrs. We grew up together we seen each other grow into the adults we are now.

good question!

FH and I have started to use the C word.......compromise! Its something that we're both adjusting to lol

Also, I really don't go out as much or get as wasted as I used to. I feel more grown-up in a sense.

Nothing has really changed much since we got engaged. The only thing changing is our decreasing bank accounts
