SO it is definitely time for a new job...

SO it is definitely time for a new job...

I am seriously considering going back to school! Sitting here in an office doing absolutely NOTHING all day is starting to really get to me! Thank goodness for LiWeddings or I would just go insane . The only problem is is that I have NO clue what I want to do and what I would go to school for. I am young so I do have that in my favor. I went to college when I graduated from HS and I partially didn't care but in the same breath I didn't know what I wanted to do and I think that was/is the problem! It's really frustrating and I feel so unaccomplished! I am 21 and I am hearing all of these people from my class graduated and it's like yea i haven't done anything thus far . Sorry for the rant, just a little upset/annoyed with myself. Thanks for reading!

awww hang in there...my fsil is in the same boat...she got a job at sloan kettering and hated it...now she is working as a probation investigator...she lieks that for now but i dont know if it is what she really wants to do.

Just take some time to explore things that interest you...What were your favorite subjects in college? What did you major in?

I majored in Liberal Arts when i went to Suffolk. It really didn't help because I guess I didn't take anything that interested me. When I go back to school I want have a focus. in HS my favorite subject was probably Business Law and Criminal Justice.

You sound exactly like me 5 years ago....I dropped out of college after 2 yrs bc I didn't care, I got a good job in Manhattan, was making good money but hated my job, 3 yrs into the job I decided to re-apply to Queens College and finish it out. I went back for Italian, I was just happy with getting my Bachelors, I also minored in education so I am able to teach. The only problem now is, I graduated with my BA in Italian and can't find a job for the life of me. I would prefer to teach but it seems like a longshot. I'm giving myself until August to find a teaching position, if not i'm going to look for an office job.

Going back to school was the best thing I could have done, I was so dedicated to my studies, I graduated with a really high GPA and can honestly say I enjoyed all of my classes. My parents and FH were so proud of me for finishing college, not to mention how great it feels for yourself.

You should really sit and think about it and talk to FH. I quit my job and went back to school full time, it has been tough on me financially but I had saved alot while I was working to get me through the last few years and my parents helped me alot. If you're willing to do it then go for it and best of luck to you.

That's like 5 minutes from me lol! That is true but then I don't want to waste money if I don't like it. I'm thinking of going back to Suffolk just to see.

I think if I decided to go back to school I would quit my job and just use school as my main focus. Like what you did! That is great that you finished school! Good luck with finding a job! Maybe you could find a job that you could travel with?!

Re: SO it is definitely time for a new job...

I know what you are going through. I went to Nassau and got my Associates in Fashion Buying Merchandising. I had internship in the fashion business- they were all exciting but the fashion world is too damn snobby if you ask me. I was tired of having to live up to that whole image so I got out. I went job hunting one day. I got called to work in an insurance agency. Best day of my life! It actually got me inspired to go back to school. So, now I am going to Farmingdale and finishing up my Business degree. As soon as that is done, I am going for my MBA.

Changing your life career wise can be scary. I suggest getting into a job that interests you. If you like criminal justice, go take some state exams. They do not have to be police officer tests but ones where you work in the police department as an assistant or a clerk. You could learn a lot about the field and see if it's right for you. The reason why I suggest working in the field while you go to school is because most companies like to see a young person balance school and work. I started in the insurance business at 21. I am now 26 with a lot of experience and I actually make as much as someone (If not more) than someone who has a four year degree because of my experience. Good luck- I know you can do it. When you are focused, you will do it!

maybe find some interesting courses at suffolk that you could take for really cheap and see if you like them. I know they have criminal justice classes there. Sometimes it just takes a little time and then something clicks. I'm sure you could run up there and get a course book and see the type of classes offered.

I feel the same way ... When I first started my job I as supposed to support only two people, well 2 turned into 8! No joke, I literally do travel for 8 people! I just finished my MBA program SO I thinking should I start looking for another job or should I wait it out until the wedding ... Since its a steady paycheck and I need the money!

That is great!!! It's funny that you mention insurance, because I was going to go to school to get a degree to be an insurance adjuster. FH's father was an insurance adjuster and it just seems really interesting to me. I was thinking of going to school for that about a year ago. But I'm afraid that I will mess it up again . I just have to do it and I should be fine

I figured that. But I did mention just taking a test. They have positions for clerks, PSA's, court house clerks- all types of stuff. These jobs pay well and you get amazing benefits and a nice pension. My FMIL works as a PSA in headquarters and she does really well. If you want, I can get info from her and give it to you if interested.

If you like insurance, try a job at State Farm or Geico or some other car insurance company. You could always just get a job in the office and then from there move up to be an adjuster. Plus most insurance companies pay for school!
