What, to you, is the purpose of a rehearsal dinner other than the obvious, practicing for the big day??
Don't worry- I am having a nice dinner for my bridal party!! I am just curious as to your feelings

To me, the rehearsal dinner is a time for the Bride and Groom to formally thank the members of their wedding party, their families and any special guests they've invited for making the trip, dealing with us, supporting us, etc. The wedding is all about the bride and groom so the rehearsal dinner is about the b and g saying thank you to others.
As for food : I can see why some brides would want to keep the rehearsal dinner more on the casual side - the wedding will be formal enough and they have been driving themselves crazy with planning, etc that something like a slice of pizza or a hero sandwich sounds fantastic. I dont think it's appropriate to only serve that at a rehearsal dinner, though. Serve a few pizzas, a hero, add some trays of italian food, maybe add a salad and you've got a great spread. . . ok - now i'm hungry.
I agree!

I am having one to thank everyone- and to get everyone together before the madness begins-
I don't think we are actually going to reharsal- maybe just go over things- like who is walking with who

We didn't rehearse.... For me it was to a) give our thanks (and presents) to those who helped us out so much b) build anticipation for the big day. I was so excited the night before my wedding I felt like it was christmas eve, being with everyone and having a celebration made it feel like wedding eve.....

I think its just a nice dinner thats quieter and more intimate for the close relatives to have before the big hustle and bustle of the wedding day itself.

We did a mini rehearsal the day before the RD. We used it as a way to thank everyone in the BP and our parents. We also handed out our gifts then too. Ours was at the restaurant inside East Wind, kind of casual yet nice.
