That's awful!
Isn't there something called 'Seperation of Church and State?'
ETA: can they be removed from their position for not doing their job?

Apparently no because they are backed up by the communitys!

There was definitely posts on this a while ago -I think it's BS - it's your job to fill prescriptions and not judge people for why they are taking them!!! If you don't like it, find another profession!

Re: So Listen To This.....
oh, i know! Maybe teaching abstinance and refusing to sell birth control will stop everyone from having sex before they're married!
Bunch of freakin Mensa candidates we have here huh?
Okay, if you don't like birth control DON'T USE IT!
But don't take it away from me, or I'll kick you in the back repeatedly for an entire day so you can feel the pain I feel when I get my period when I'm not on it.
Edited for grammar

That's such BS! It isn't their jobs to decide which prescriptions to fill. Some people are on the pill for reasons other than birth control - will they fill it then? Will they stop filling prescriptions for AIDS patients b/c they think that people who get AIDS 'deserve it' (sadly, there are people who feel this way).

Ugh! I know I originally went on it for cramps (I was missing a day or two of classes once a month).
Know what other option I was given to help me? Vioxx. Yeah, that would have been a much better decision

Yeah, seriously! I originally went on it b/c of extremely irregular periods (3 times in one month is a bit much, if you ask me! Sorry, TMI!)

I'm not disagreeing with you, but a pharmacy is a private business and not the 'state' so they have a legal right o do whatever they want. I don't eat meat. If I own a gorcery store I have a legal right to not sell meat. I know that's oversimpplifying, but that's basically it. A pharmacy is like any other store and they have a right to carry or not carry whatever they want. If Waldbaums doens't have the brand of cereal that you like, you don't stage a protest, you shop at pathmark.
They don't have to give out birth control, and we don't have to shop there.

I see your point, but medication is a lot different then meat or cereal... And while this may not be an issue on Long Island, what about areas where there may only be one or two pharmacy's... I don't know, it just doesn't seem right to deny someone their medication because of your moral beliefs.
As I said, I went on BC because of cramping, and my other option was Vioxx. My step-father (a pharmacist) told me to go to BC because he felt it was much safer, and would benefit me more than the Vioxx.
I'll have to ask him what he knows about this new issue...

It's not that new and issue. And even though for some people it IS important, it's not seen as a life saving drug. In most cases it's an elective drug, and unlike many other drugs it carries some moral baggage with it.
Also, there's always mail order for lifestyle drugs (my insurance company MAKES me order 90 days of allegra through the mail, for example), so it isn't like people really CAN'T get it if you want it.
I'm just saying that as much as we all have the right to get our BC, the pharmacist has the same right not to sell it.

yeah, i don't know why i typed new issue... it was late...
I actually do mail order mine now since the price jumped from $15 for 3 packs to $30 for one...
I just feel that, I'm a teacher, so I can't just say 'well, i'm morally opposed to fractions, so I'm not going to teach them to my students'
I'm afraid that this might start a slippery slope, since now it's becoming so publicized.
And yes, it's not life saving. But again, in my case, it may have been, as the alternative given to me was vioxx... My stepfather knew that the drug was unsafe so he wouldn't let me take it over the BC, but I'm sure any other pharmacist would have perscribed it at the time (about 4 or 5 years ago).
It just seems wrong to be morally opposed to one drug, but not morally opposed to one that many pharmacists knew was unsafe.
